I miss the feeling of hearing rumors and myths about games. It was super common before everyone had quick access to information about games, and when data mining was not as much of a thing.
Like, how to get that damn ice key in Banjo Kazooie, or a 70 page gamefaqs forums thread on what was up with the moon and the kids on it in Majora's Mask, or if there was a way to bring back Aerith. The mystery that someone hid a hippo which was incredibly deadly in Halo, and people spent months looking for it (the hippo is a logo on the shotgun shell, which you only see for a few frames during reloading).
I think the closest thing to me that feels similar to that mystery and excitement is Undertale/Deltarune. It really seems like Gaster and such was really drawing on that vibe. I think the slow, episodic release of Deltarune has also worked in favor of that, with so much speculation and rumors.
Just thinking about the Florida shit actually killing Pride celebrations there, and
this is the first Pride in I don't know how many years where it feels relevant again, instead of just an event to be hijacked by corporate interests? So that's gonna make next month interesting.
(remember kids, the first Pride was a riot, and it probably should be again, and you've got 2 weeks to buy uh, Pride supplies)
EDIT: hope everyone bought their pride supplies! have fun!
sorry to keep sharing bummer news, but if you have EzriCare eye drops, get rid of them right now:

Orcas have sunk 3 boats in Europe and appear to be teaching others to do the same.
Scientists think a traumatized orca initiated the assault on boats after a "critical moment of agony" and that the behavior is spreading among the population through social learning.
if someone has to make a public-facing workaround this brazen for your service "where open source communities live", you have truly fucked up (and i say this as someone who worked on a public linux distro with repositories blocked outside of EC2 for two years)
bandcamp won their union! bandcamp won their union!!
i'm so fucking happy for them, and also for the possible knock-on effects of some of epic game's holdings unionizing

y'know there should probably be a way to defederate software automatically based on what it is
like for example there are literally absolutely NO good soapbox instances because it's TERF software
so a tool to defederate those automatically would come in handy when facebook/meta/whatever try rearing their ugly head here
that way, when they arrive, we can block them en-masse simply and swiftly
re: nieuwsmedia
it's kind of funny to me how much the Legend of Zelda fandom clings to insisting that the games in the series can be assembled into any kind of coherent overarching narrative
I wish there were some way Nintendo could signal that the series is meant to operate on the logic of, like, a folklore tradition, not a historical textbook
Like, maybe, there's some word that they could use. They could put in the title of the series? or maybe that would be going too far idk
