A non-obvious problem in FOSS project management

When you have enough contributors to handle the easy issues but not the complex ones, but you also cannot attract new contributors because there are no easy issues for them to get their feet wet with anymore - the project has progressed too far

A reminder this agender pride day that you don't have to have a gender if you don't want to. You can literally just opt out altogether if you think it would be more comfortable for you. :agender_flag:

re: nieuwsmedia

it's kind of funny to me how much the Legend of Zelda fandom clings to insisting that the games in the series can be assembled into any kind of coherent overarching narrative

I wish there were some way Nintendo could signal that the series is meant to operate on the logic of, like, a folklore tradition, not a historical textbook

Like, maybe, there's some word that they could use. They could put in the title of the series? or maybe that would be going too far idk

TIL that in Firefox, you can open a new tab in the middle of the tab list instead of at the end, by right-clicking an existing tab and clicking "New tab" there, instead of the new-tab button on the right.

hey does anyone in england have any spare progesterone and cyproterone ?

“My son spends too much time being fascinated by ants and clouds. He spends a lot of time watching the world go by will this improve?” - Real, if depressing, question from a parenting group.

MY GOD — I hope not!
It’s really strange how some things are seen as needlessly day-dreamy obsessions while other fixations aren’t questioned or encouraged. There is a whole language for understanding the world of ants, in the complexity of clouds— What questions do they raise that are so hard to let go of?

Just because some people are capable of climbing over a barrier does not mean the barrier is not a problem.

The ADHD experience is having everyone act like you have some big hidden potential that you could be living up to if you just worked harder to make your ADHD magically disappear.

Enby terms

A few weeks ago, a bus driver noticed the They/Them buttons on my bag, and asked my what the gender neutral of Sir/Madam was. I didn't have a good answer, and couldn't find something after a brief bit of research; I think I just suggested "person", which is definitely weak.

Caught the bus today, same driver, and she remember me and said "I figured it out: comrade!"

I like this driver :D

I just read about the backstory for the .zip and .mov TLDs and Google's thinking seems totally orthogonal to reality:

Google marketers say the aim is to designate “tying things together or moving really fast” and “moving pictures and whatever moves you,”

.mov is a movie, and .zip is an archive, and no amount of Google marketing can change that. Moreover, yes, black holing these domains sounds like a good idea.

We hear you saying that the organization is understaffed, and we’re committed to working on solutions to the problem that are creative, flexible, and most importantly do not involve hiring additional people.

As an AI language model,

Okay now that the robots aren't listening, this is the plan

@joepie91 Yes, it’s called Crypto Ancienne. The author tries to seamlessly integrate the updated TLS builds into the respective environments, but some are so constrained that they need a companion proxy device nearby. The release blog is definitely a fascinating read!

Bodies are canceled
Come back to me when you've fixed all the bugs.

Once you accept that there's so much knowledge outside of what you know, the world just opens up and becomes gorgeous in a completely different way.

You get the opportunity to learn every day!

New people showing up on Mastodon:

What is the deal with x?

us: It's by design, we like it that way.

Whats the deal with y?

Us: it's by design, we absolutely hate it, but someone refuses to listen to us about it.

whats the deal with z?

us: it's by design but we had to fight tooth and nail to get it on there, and then it was never fixed to be _better_, so it just kind of is what it is.

Does anyone know of a well-sourced(!) article or site documenting common myths and assumptions about Javascript, and systematically debunking them?

Asking before I start building something like this myself, so that I don't duplicate work...

(No low-effort listicles or clickbait please, only things that really make a genuine effort at explaining *why* common beliefs are wrong) :boost_requested:
