“hermeneutical injustice” is a word i wish everyone knew and understood. it's like when you can't explain to someone how you are or what you need because you don't have good words for it. maybe you can't even understand yourself because you don't have the concepts. Even if you can explain it it takes so long and is confusing so it's unjust because most other people can explain themselves and understand themselves easier

The Rust Foundation is currently planning to set an extremely strict trademark policy, essentially prohibiting everyone for using the word “Rust” for the project names and domains (affecting project names like rust-crypto, names of YouTube tutorials about Rust) and also from modifying Rust logo (affecting e.g. Actix). They also managed to trademark the word Clippy, despite taking it from Microsoft.
They’re currently accepting community feedback. I think that proposed policy, if accepted, would greatly hurt Rust-related projects for no clear benefit. If you also have an opinion about that, please, give them your feedback.

UPD: I’ve been corrected: the current draft explicitly allows books, and I think allows websites as long as the domain name doesn’t contain the word “Rust”. The other interesting case is YouTube videos, since they’re commercial due to monetization.

I'm gonna start straight up blocking folks I see posting un-CW'd US doom politics all the time.
I get that shit is fucked over there (everywhere, really, we live in fucky times), but repeatedly posting takes about democrats vs republicans, Trump, US fascists, riling folks up to obtain guns... what does that really accomplish? Aside from making folks even more anxious, sad, and angry? Fuck all, I'd say.
On a more personal level, I just can't hack absorbing even more abstracted + formless anxiety and sadness than I already have about shit I actually have a say in. It's not good for me. If it helps people to post through it, fine, good for them (though I feel like it's less about venting and more about generating 'engagement'), but that doesn't mean I gotta see it too.

instead of splitting politics into the arbitrary directions "left" and "right", which allows fash to claim their ideas are valid and so-called centrists that they are reasonable and everyone else is "too extreme in either direction", we should split them into the meanings of "does not want disadvantaged folks to suffer and/or die" and "wants disadvantaged folks to suffer and/or die"
this would solve a bunch of problems:
"leftists" that don't care about the poor, disabled, racially discriminated against, queer, and/or other minorities/marginalized would not longer be able to claim they're "also on the left so pwease do left unity uwu"
centrist positions would simply cease existing
it would be easier to discern bad faith actors from folks genuinely caring about issues

I dunno maybe being 12 years old and writing a forum plugin specifically to replace one that was full of SQL injection exploits gave me a different-than-normal view of security stuff
but if you're making a thing that interacts with security in any way, you've gotta understand all the things you can do wrong or you're gonna do them
