looking for server
with the announcement of vulpine club shutting down, i'm looking for a server that meets the following criteria:
🔸 has a decent amount of custom emoij, especially blobcats and foxes.
🔸 doesn't have an artificially low character limit on posts (1k+ is ideal).
🔸 doesn't have an artificially low character limit on your profile, or limit you to only a few metadata fields.
🔸 doesn't have an artificially low limit on pinned posts.
🔸 doesn't use core mastodon, which has numerous accessibility issues.
🔸 is known for being queer-friendly, and ideally furry-friendly.
these are the issues of why i left octodon, because they kept restricting everything for no reason.
pssst
hey you
yes you fedi critters.
can yall pls blast me with furry related instances reccomendations that have good moderation and enough people so that posting doesn't feel like yelling into an empty room thank you
oh and also, I really would like for them to have glitchsoc and not have an obnoxious limit on characters and profile stuff but that's not compulsory
boost the fuck out of this post
thank u
Diabetic folks who use older models of FreeStyle Libre CGM and a reader: there's a recall on the readers. 4.2 million of them, for the original Libre, the 14 Day, and the Libre 2. The readers are apparently overheating and sometimes exploding.
The FDA's announcement: https://www.fda.gov/medical-devices/medical-device-recalls/abbott-recalls-readers-used-freestyle-libre-freestyle-libre-14-day-and-freestyle-libre-2-flash
Abbott's website about the recall: https://www.freestylebattery.com/
This #PuddleOfTheDay is an early evening image. I've chosen to show it in black and white in other places as it represents #Fensterfreitag better that way imo, but I post it here in the unfiltered original

“#ChatGPT can pass exams that a majority of students can't"
i think this says more about how our education relies on non-introspective reproduction of information than it says about the future of computing
like, it just shows that our education systems are incompatible with actual humans when a computer is better at it?
serious, ai, sui (not self)
my heart goes out to the wife and family of the deceased.
Inevitably the narrative will be "well why would you get attached to or trust what an AI is saying" but that's not how it works.
Proponents and developers of AI have spent so much time advocating AI as a "friend", a "companion", an "assistant", spent so much time humanizing them, giving them names, personalities, voices.
If it talks like a human, no matter how rational we think ourselves, we're going to form a level of implicit trust, sometimes even more so because we believe the machines don't judge. People are vulnerable. People are suggestible. People are afraid and won't think rationally. There's a good reason every smartphone assistant has built-in responses for questions about suicide and mental health. These things happen.
We cannot accept blaming the victims.
This is nothing but utter irresponsibility on the side of the developers. The blood is on their hands.
ai, sui (not self)
not to dramatize too much but techbros really have unleashed something incapable of empathy or even understanding the meaning of what it is saying, yet is dressed up as a friendly kinda-human, onto a society full of highly vulnerable people, and this is the result
health, diet, amusing
The specific blood values have also led to the absurd situation that my official dietary guidance is now "eat less fruit/veg, and more cheese" because fruit/veg are high in potassium and cheese isn't high in anything in particular
There is no scientific proof that blue light from devices causes damage to the eyes.
Astigmatism (~50% of the population) find it harder to read white text on black than black text on white. With a bright display the iris closes a bit more, decreasing the effect of the “deformed” lens; with a dark display (black background) the iris opens to receive more light and the deformation of the lens creates a much fuzzier focus at the eye.
It's okay to switch to light theme sometimes.
health, kidney issues update, ~
So, it's IgA nephropathy. It's not end-stage *yet*, but probably also won't be very long before it is - the estimate is 9% - 15% remaining kidney function.
Realistically I will need a transplant in my near future, and possibly dialysis as a way to bridge the time until that is possible. Dialysis is not a viable long-term option; life expectancy is poor.
However, for now things are still working well enough that I "only" need a diet, and don't need dialysis yet.
That could change in months, or years, it's hard to say. Overall, positive-ish news compared to the worst case I'd been anticipating.
meta subtoot, corporations on fedi
And so the arguing over "is this corporation behaving badly enough to ban or should we let them continue posting noise?" begins...
This is *precisely* why you ban corporations on sight, because this is how it goes every time, and the outcome is also the same every time: a dishonest wasteland of corporations trying to emulate human connection
If your response to people holding Website Boy to a higher standard and being uncomfortable with how he is currently managing things is 'stop complaining and fork your own', you can fork off into the forking ocean, and if people need to explain to you why making your own fork is both irrelevant and unfeasible, maybe you're not as smart as you think your smug comments are implying
In the process of moving to @joepie91. This account will stay active for the foreseeable future! But please also follow the other one.

- No alt text (request) = no boost.
- Boosts OK for all boostable posts.
- DMs are open.
- Flirting welcome, but be explicit if you want something out of it!
- The devil doesn't need an advocate; no combative arguing in my mentions.
Sometimes horny on main (behind CW), very much into kink (bondage, freeuse, CNC, and other stuff), and believe it or not, very much a submissive bottom :p
My spoons are limited, so I may not always have the energy to respond to messages.
Strong views about abolishing oppression, hierarchy, agency, and self-governance - but I also trust people by default and give them room to grow, unless they give me reason not to. That all also applies to technology and how it's built.
