Don't forget
A lot of the people who came to Fedi before Nov 2022, they did so in order to avoid situations like Cambridge Analytica
So unless you want to send those people a big "fuck you" by gift-wrapping all their data and sending it to Meta, you gotta block them

yet another company has started a Mastodon instance https://flipboard.social/@Flipboard/109943199786939417
their business model revolves around selling your personal info to show you ads, so please join me in flipping that shit directly into the trash
lol, facebook's P92, apparently the initial plan is to allow activitypub remote followers but not remote follows
ie, a whole activitypub server ran by facebook which would essentially just be a bridge full of crossposter bots
yeah, i'd say everyone should defederate as soon as something concrete appears
i think FB are just missing the point as usual. "everyone's moving to activitypub? we can implement that!"
i just wanna say that activism isn't just going to protests and confronting fascism. it's also mutual aid. it's the soup kitchen, housing and medical support. it's the art. it's science and reasoning and education. it's agitation. it's organizing. it's fundraising. it's ties and connections. it's direct action.
we can't fight oppression and corruption alone because one person can only know or be able to do so much. but teaming up to play different roles and support each other strategically is what makes the biggest difference.
Silicon valley only ever has the capability to remember exactly *one* idea that all the laser brains running that shit have to share.
After every company having a feed and every company being TikTok and every company being Clubhouse now every company wants to be a frontend to an unreliable symbol generator.

re: subtoot, political violence
Like, to put it more bluntly: chances are that those "violent activists" have tried non-violent methods for years while you were pretending that the problem didn't exist
subtoot, political violence
If you think that activists are too willing to use violence, consider that instead of criticizing those activists, you should maybe be asking yourself how it got to the point where violence is seen as necessary, and what non-violent work you yourself have not been doing that could have solved the problem sooner

Strong views about abolishing oppression, hierarchy, agency, and self-governance - but I also trust people by default and give them room to grow, unless they give me reason not to. That all also applies to technology and how it's built.
