cloudflare can eat a big old bag of dicks, and that's my professional opinion on the matter

if you work for cloudflare, quit

if you give money to cloudflare, stop

fuck those assholes

Apart from anything else, my white boyfriends seem to manage this solidarity thing just fine.

They listen when it’s time to learn and they pull me aside when it’s time for me to listen and learn.

I promise if you’re struggling with this kind of thing, this is a you problem.

Am I affected by transphobia? Even as a cis person? Absolutely.

Also, I’m an accomplice; not an ally. The stakes are very high for me and my loved ones.

The time for white queers to stop deflecting when white queers do not keep up their end of the agreement between communities was many many years ago.

The next best opportunity to stop deflecting and start listening would be today. Right now.

rant, git, UX

So here's a good example of how git actually isn't very intuitive at all:

- A common action before commit is to *stage* changes
- You do this with a command called git *add*
- To view the staged changes, you have to run git diff with the *cached* flag

Why are three entirely different terms used here to refer to the same thing?

(That is a rhetorical question, btw)

"I don't want to be censored" is a very different statement than "I want my voice to be heard"

I couldn't understand why AVX registers were randomly going back in time on Ryzen, turns out it's a known CPU errata 😬

By the way: if you decide to feed local crows, PLEASE DON'T FEED THEM WHITE BREAD, especially during mating season.

Urban hatchlings are sometimes flightless and not long for this world due to bad nutrition.

Give them seeds, dog treats, nuts, fruit, and corpses of your enemies to feast upon.

Remember: crows are too metal for white bread.

The subtler effects of the authoritarian mindset and authoritarian propaganda: I basically BSOD'd a friend of mine when I told him that neighbourhoods aren't "official" or "formally defined" in most cities.

He seems legitimately uncomfortable with the idea that people can just... define the names and areas of the spaces they live in without a higher authority drawing lines on a map.

He's also coming up with these weird hypotheticals like "but what if people suddenly decide to rename these two neighbourhoods in the city into "Bilbo" and "Frodo"? What would stop them from doing that?"

Thankfully he did realize that makes basically no sense and that it's a gradual, organic change.

re: rant, programmers

Also, to clarify: of course it's fine to bring up any *legitimate* concerns you have about the instructions or suggestions you're given. This is definitely not about that.

This is about the "I know what I'm doing, and it's your fault if my transcription isn't enough" crowd. The ones where the ego leaks through from the first message.

Side rant: if you were unable to figure out from the output what the source of the problem is by yourself, what makes you think you are so confidently qualified to determine what part of the output is "relevant"?

rant, programmers

I really cannot stand people who ask for programming help in a public channel, are asked to provide a pastebin of the exact output unmodified, and then will spend endless time arguing that their lossy transcription of the output "should be good enough" or do basically anything other than "making the damn pastebin"

(This also applies to being needlessly difficult about other instructions, and it's usually the same people)

Like, people are asking you to do this *for a reason*, you are asking for free help from volunteers, and the least you could fucking do is not make their job harder by nitpicking every suggestion or instruction for the sake of it

Do not seize the day. This will startle the day and may cause it to become aggressive and give you a nasty bite.

Instead approach the day calmly without making eye contact, pet it gently, and slowly enfold it in a careful embrace

If the day shows any signs of resistance to being engaged with, it is likely to turn on you. Back off and return to bed.

So apparently the Mastodon 4.x public toot view has copied Twitter's long-thread bug where you can scroll from the end to the start but not the other way around

Incredible, this is even worse than the barely-legible "Read more" button it used to have

Garbage collectors here (Den Bosch) were going to strike for 5 days. The strike was ended after only one day, because the city gave in and agreed to a salary increase of 12 percent instead of 5 percent. Nice!

I mean ... that is a blue LCD display so I suppose it has blue rays...

Blind person asking for pointers. Please boost and thank you.

Does anyone have any tips for a blind user for how to scan a QR code on Mac? I thought it was just one at first, but I can’t hit any of them. I used to be able to do this with PC. I’m locked out of some of my accounts now. To clarify, I need to scan the code on my Mac screen with my iPhone and can't hit the target. It is keeping me from using WhatsApp for desktop.
