Flash things didn't typically mysteriously freeze for several seconds mid-interaction, and Flash (the authoring software) made a lot of creative work accessible to a degree that the current generation of software doesn't really.

@gsuberland@chaos.social To be clear, I use the phrase 'raised beds' but it's a little different from your usual (high-effort, robust, solid) raised beds; because you basically never interact with the soil it doesn't need to be rigid or robust, so sticking a bunch of branches into the ground to create a 'fence' that holds back the soil (maybe with a little metal wire around the whole thing) is pretty much enough to tick the box 🙂
(That may still be too much effort for you, just wanted to make it clear that I don't mean the fancy nice-wood things you usually see as raised beds)
@gsuberland@chaos.social Something really neat in the 'low-effort gardening' category that I ran across recently, is the "keyhole garden" - basically raised beds in a circle around a compost heap in the middle, with a cut-out so that you can reach it.
Toss your food and garden waste into the compost bin, along with a bunch of water, and it'll seep into all the adjacent garden beds by itself over time, no further maintenance or attention required.
It's usually used for vegetable gardens but I don't see why it couldn't also be used for other kinds of plants!

Worst: luggage space. Most carriages have no rack for large bags at all! What were they thinking?

Sorry if this makes me a lazy leech on society or whatever but I think we should chuck the Puritan work ethic, hustle culture, grindset mindset, all of that crap. I think people should have time for rest, leisure, self care, family, friends, and civic engagement. We should be letting people enjoy life, not expect them to spend every waking hour working for the sake of work because idle hands do the devil's work or whatever modern paint job you want to put on that 400 year old bullshit.

Well, at least the SC did *something* against the fascist arms manufacturer recruiting on the forums, but again with the both-sidesism and the seeming deathly afraid of doing anything that might be deemed 'unfair' by fascists.
It's almost as if this is an entirely predictable outcome when you try to emulate a nation state in your governance structure and refuse to settle on any actual value system!

THEY FIRED HIM OH THANK GOD there we were, a crowd of hundred thousand easily, cheering or groaning along with every word of the decision as it was read. We watched as all the shitty failed dictator's specious defenses were dismissed and his attempted destruction of democratic order condemned, and he was fired from office at exactly 11:22 am when the order was read 😭
Then we immediately partied and marched in the streets to celebrate victory!! I'm so relieved and it's such a weight off, oh God. I've been singing, shouting, and walking for over an hour and both the nervous and joyous energy have burned off at last. Whew! We've been so anxious over this for so long, it's like a dream 💖

"open data" or "open information" has very little to do with milliseconds of UI latency or fractional uptime and much more to do with "what happens when it becomes profitable to weaponize my dependence on you as an information source"

A word of advice: if you are a part of any organizations that refuse to do something, anything, specifically because "they do not want to make it political" (or something else that involves the word "political"), *regardless* of what that something is...
Start finding or building alternatives to those organizations. Start doing that now.
Organizations like this *will not* survive a wave of fascism without ending up supporting it themselves, because they are not equipped to deal with the realities of a changing political landscape, and are unwilling to engage with the political consequences of their actions or inaction.
You could in principle try to fix the organization, but in practice this almost never succeeds - these stances are typically the result of ingrained beliefs by a privileged subset of the organization's participants, who will push back *hard* on any attempt to change this, and you will likely just end up burning out.
This doesn't mean that *all* inaction is bad either, of course. There can be legitimate reasons to not engage with an issue, but they must be more nuanced and detailed. If all you get is "politics" as the reason, with no further explanation, that is your cue to leave. Take your labour and energy elsewhere.
