racism

@mynameistillian I occasionally click through to the replies as viewed from another instance, and racist commentary like this nearly always seems to originate from either mastodon.social, infosec.exchange, or fosstodon - with occasionally other generic open instances in the mix...

Especially the sinophobia seems really common on infosec.exchange and also in retro circles 😕

subtoot, racism (2)

Entirely unsurprisingly, the user in question was on infosec.exchange

subtoot, racism

For fucks sake, how fucking racist-brained do you need to be to respond to a toot about Teslas being exceptionally unsafe with "Just a reminder that half of all Teslas come from China" and nothing else

explanation

@domo (There's going to be a couple of cases like this in Dutch, btw, where an established name for a group of things or people is treated as a singular object - they're *technically* not uncountable nouns, I believe, but they behave like them for the purpose of grammar)

boost to scare a thunderbird developer

@linus Ah, I have something similar in my Thunderbird, and it is also the Github notifications folder 😅

explanation

@domo A singular cop would be a "politieagent" (or, colloquially and more commonly, "agent", as that word is rarely used for anything else anyway), and so the plural would be "politieagenten" or "agenten".

@venite "Dat is extreem veel geld, maar zoveel is er geïnvesteerd."

Wat een onzinargument ook. Je hebt gewoon jarenlang kunnen profiteren van die investeringen, dus dan moet je niet ineens proberen om de hele investering terug te claimen. Kom op nou.

explanation

@domo In Dutch, "politie" refers to the institution rather than being the plural of cop. It's an uncountable noun of sorts, and therefore uses singular forms of verbs.

I hate the "talk about emergencies" section of Duolingo because its so copaganda heavy.

concept: a show like ramsay's kitchen nightmares, but about software instead

"i'm at spunkchute, a SaaS company that owes $2 million to AWS and is on the brink of closure”

"oh my [bleep] god. the main database server is running Ubuntu 8.04 and has two backdoors and a coin miner. SHUT. IT. DOWN.”

@HeavenlyPossum @junglecat_rant Even in a not-anarchist left-wing antiauthoritarian context, horizontality is generally speaking a good thing.

Instead of power being held at the top of a vertical hierarchy, it would be distributed widely closer to those whom are most directly affected by political decisions.

Anarchism just takes this idea one step further, to rid the hierarchy of the state in its entirety.

This is the opposite idea of empowering a few power hoarding masters.

@irina @smveerman Having worked at a Kiosk in the past, I don't believe for a moment that this is any faster...

What value do tech columnists and podcasters and writers to the table who just follow every hype? Not for corporations but for you? Why are so many still reading and listening to that kind of drivel?
