Commissioned vgen.co/angelrosestar / bsky.app/profile/angelrosestar today to draw a version of my avatar that's not just a rip from game assets - pretty happy with the results, I'm now a slightly less unoriginal cat online.

A++ would recommend paying artists.

: In JSON-LD, can you just specify an array of (type-valid) items anywhere a single item type is defined in the schema, or am I misunderstanding something here?

A friend likes holes in her jeans, but this pair had one too close to the seam that tore out further. She hunted online until she found the perfect patch for the situation, and I got them fixed up this morning.

As usual for repairing jeans, I put denim patching on the inside and stitched it in place, then added the decorative patch.

ph-, dental

Well crap, a chunk just broke off from my root canal tooth. Knew it was going to happen eventually, but this is not exactly the optimal moment for that...

Well, off to the dentist I go tomorrow, I suppose.

If you use Signal, Discord, or any other messaging app and you DON'T want Google or Apple monitoring/reading/learning from your messages, follow these steps.

Android:
1. Open Google app
2. Tap your profile photo
3. Settings
4. Google Assistant
5. "Your Apps"
6. Choose the app (e.g., Signal)
7. Toggle "Let your assistant learn from this app" off

iPhone:
1. Settings
2. Apps
3. Choose the app (e.g., Signal)
4. Toggle Apple intelligence or Siri settings to off (“learn from this app”)

any ideas on repurposing vcrs ? im gonna try get one working as iv got a tape that i want to digitalize, its music artist interviews and i could only find half of them on the internet. my parents still hav a working one (i think) but it would b neat to hav one myself

not sure what to do with the others so any ideas appreciated. planning to salvage anything useful or interesting. i like the head drums lol

@markstos By this point it is clear to me that you are looking to justify your current position, rather than learning about a different one, so I am stepping out of this conversation.

There is not enough time in my day to be arguing with someone who only asks questions and then does nothing with the answers.

@markstos @futzle Oh, and bonus reason: it allows for identifying patterns in bug reports that suggest a more structural change that can be made to solve a lot of issues at once, instead of whack-a-moling individual issues forever

If Bluesky is performing in a public square, Mastodon is choosing a queer clubhouse filled with queers and partying so loud that the cishets in the street outside occasionally overhear and get all touristy and interested

@markstos @futzle
- It allows for people to contribute a solution *eventually*
- It serves as a reference for people newly running into the same bug, especially if workarounds are suggested
- It doesn't communicate "I don't care about your work" (assuming you've communicated expectations correctly)
- It provides more reliable statistics on how well things are going in terms of reliability/support/etc., both to you and to potential contributors
- Closing it will just cause a new bug to be created once the next person runs across it anyways so it doesn't even meaningfully reduce your bugs anyway

Are those sufficient reasons? I'm sure there'll be a couple more reasons not to fudge the data if one thinks about it for a bit

@markstos @futzle (Also, if you want more volunteers, a good start would probably be to recognize that people submitting detailed bugs are *also* contributors, and not indiscriminately closing their issues without ever resolving them, which is functionally equivalent to telling them you don't care about their work.)

@markstos @futzle I have read the whole thing. No, it is not just for commercial teams, that is just the context in which it is explained.

I have also been doing open-source development and community management for some 15 years by this point so I understand perfectly well how volunteer work works, thank you.

Everyone talks about how the Steam Deck has helped Linux gaming a ton, but I don't see people talk about how it is probably the one thing (alongside the Switch, although most games don't get ported to that) encouraging “modern” games to run even somewhat passably on literally anything but $6000 gaming PCs

Where are all the reverse engineers, compiler devs, and OS devs at!? There must be some people interested in this stuff around these parts...

(Please don't recommend hashtags. It's an intentional omission, to avoid the "hacker bros".)

It's interesting that "fuck around and find out" used to be a boomer parenting strategy/threat but now it's an anarchist promise about boundaries and natural consequences
