US politics, positive
Federal workers I know are very encouraged by people flooding the #antiDEI snitch email address with spam. They feel like someone has their backs.
Even small (and perhaps silly) acts of solidarity may have a big impact in ways you don’t think about.

In the fediverse, many of us appreciate #RSS to follow blogs and podcasts and such, but I never see anyone talking about using #iCalendar for following event calendars. An open standard of similar age to RSS, it works well and is widely supported by #calendar software—even Google still supports it, unlike RSS. I'd like to see more meetups publishing their event schedules, more apps doing interesting things with calendars, and more investment in the open calendar ecosystem. Wouldn't you?
A reminder to academics that might think you need to “engage” in “good faith” with blatantly immoral actions taken by hateful people: you super don’t.
Really.
Nothing happens if you don’t take up the role as devil’s advocate. No one is clamoring for that.
You won’t reach the end of your existence and regret having dismissed out of hand the positions of folks that would deprive others of their humanity.
@alyx fedi plays car?
#AskFedi: Does anyone know of one of those awesome-whatever lists, but for "software (of any kind) that is easy to set up and learn to use"?
27 years of building web apps and watching my peers build authoritarian surveillance and propaganda systems to support facists and grifters.
politics, nazis, actionable
Something to remember is that nazis and other fascists are, generally, not very courageous. They use fear to oppress others, but they don't usually know how to deal with someone who isn't scared.
One of the most effective things you can do against nazi rhetoric personally, is to openly defy it. To make it clear that you are not intimidated, that their fear isn't working on you. This will leave most fascists with a lack of strategies.
This is not *entirely* zero-risk, of course. But they have way, *way* less bite than their rhetoric would imply.
@polyfloyd FWIW you can use Nix on Debian too. You won't get the declarative system configuration, but nix-shell will work

Strong views about abolishing oppression, hierarchy, agency, and self-governance - but I also trust people by default and give them room to grow, unless they give me reason not to. That all also applies to technology and how it's built.
