gun mention

@paintedsky@mastodon.gamedev.place I'm reminded of that interview someone did with... I think a writer from maybe the Sopranos? And the interviewer asked if the writer was interested in an LLM, and he was like "fuck no", and then the interviewer pressed a little more and was like, "if you were stuck on how to end a scene, you wouldn't consider asking ChatGPT for ten ways to end this scene?" and the writer responded "I would rather put a gun in my mouth and pull the trigger"

and I think about that, a lot, and how basically while obviously he was exaggerating, I do think that level of vitriol is appropriate. We're burning down forests for fucking
nothing. Complete trash.

@tauon I recall Chrome developers trying to go all-in on CSS transforms in the engine because SVG was "too complicated to fully implement" (which they did eventually relent on) so I imagine that that's probably the answer

every time I see someone online mention a new movie they like my first thought is no longer "aww cool someone liked a movie, maybe I should go see it" it's instead "wicked, looks like WB paid for some bots to shill their new movie in the comments, luckily *I'm not falling for it!*"

It's bleak out there folks.

Why is gender even listed on ID documents anyway? The only way to check that is to grossly violate someone's right to privacy and bodily autonomy.

It's as utterly pointless to list as someone's outfit.

can people kindly boost this post so i can try to continue to recover the mutuals i've lost? :boosts_ok_gay:

"Would you prefer if sites were funded by ads instead of paywalls?"

No Mr. Bond, I'd prefer those sites to die.

@phanjam Wait, isn't this the game development studio that tried to do client-side validation in an MMO, of all things?

Because I think that even for a large games company, that pretty clearly shows an exceptionally incompetent management 🙃

It's always a good evening when you find a new Deviant Ollam video.

Have you ever wondered how to drink tea in style whilst cruising through the Eurotunnel?
Well, I have answered that question for myself.

I do like systems that randomly have to come up with underground station designs, only to be used once. In Bergen, this would be Haukeland sjukehus station, which is the only underground station other than the airport station, which is more in a cutting than anything.

Quite a striking design and deeep deeeep underneath the surface (it’s underneath a hill) and connects the university hospital and other health centres with the rest of the city.

description of death (figurative), political

@nando161@theblower.au Not shown in the comic: the part where less than a mile out to sea, their crappy raft gets overwhelmed by a wave and they drown and/or starve, when they could have been waiting for a sufficiently well-equipped ship on a safe island with a food source

“We’ve implemented end-to-end encryption.”

Hurray!

“With OpenPGP.”

Oh no.

Hey, transfeminine folks! I had a convo with my (very trans-friendly) audiologist, and she asked an interesting question based on some anecdotal observations:

Have any of you noticed a correlation between feminizing HRT and hearing loss?

I'm not a good example, as I had hearing loss long before I started HRT in November 2020, but she's consulted with other audiologists who've noticed a similar trend. This may be a fluke, or confirmation bias, or related to something completely unrelated to HRT, e.g. transfems also tend to listen to really loud noisecore hyperpop or whatever, but I said I'd reach out to get some more anecdotal information.
😊 Thanks!

medical, HRT, hearing loss

@TamsinSays Reports from two people I know (shared with their permission):

One reports no change in hearing. Several years of feminizing HRT now.

The other has experienced a significant increase in earwax production, leading to regular issues with clogged ears that significantly impair hearing, requiring professional ear cleaning to restore hearing. No permanent hearing issues. Likewise, several years of feminizing HRT now - they report that "earwax so bad it needs to get cleaned out" has only started happening since starting HRT, insofar they can remember.
