Remember Ecosia, that search engine that was claiming to be environmentally friendly by planting trees?

Yeah, guess who just started doing OpenAI/LLM shit...

Like, they were never very credible on the "environmentally friendly" to begin with, but this is an absolute moral bankrupcy

Am building a plant table from salvaged boards from an old shelving unit. Unfortunately had to buy new wood for the beams, because the few beams that I still had laying around were of highly questionable structural integrity (which is not great for a support frame).

we now only have 3 days until nintendo network (and spotpass with it) shuts down, right now only 8% of all wii u spotpass data has been preserved

if you have a wii u system, please see the links above in the thread and help archive this data; once spotpass shuts down, all data that has not been archived will disappear

@Seirdy@pleroma.envs.net This passage from the Mozilla article caught my attention:

"A recurring complaint we heard from our readers was that MDN is excellent when you know what to look for. If you don’t, it’s not easy to discover the information you need…"

Which is indeed something people have complained about for years. For most of those years, it was widely denied as an existent problem.

And shining in its absence is any attempt to fix this through, you know... better writing... the very specific solution people have been asking for for years too.

Unbelievable that they would use this as a justification.

@njion @tfunken@lyratris.com Also: there are a lot of places that have icky wording like this. Whenever you call it out, the response is always "oh that's not how we intended it, they're supposed to be separate points, this was just easier to understand".

And yet. They get globbed together constantly, specifically these things. One wonders how truthful organizations are when they claim it was unintentional.

I fucking hate this implication that #SexWork is not genuine or positive. The companies ruling over our lives keep getting more and more prude and the oppression of sex workers continues as usual..

And their lack of understanding of power is motivated by a strong desire to justify their own power/privilege.

Back when I was a libertarian, I figured out that there were people who were motivated by racism, but I called this "libertarian for the wrong reasons". I eventually figured out that there was no such thing as a right reason to be a libertarian. There's a reason "left libertarianism" AKA "bleeding heart libertarianism" is still mostly white men.

There's quite some work to do to get these boards into a usable condition, unfortunately...

"Gender is one of the oldest and most established systems for controlling people. And if you think the youth fucking with it is annoying that's probably because it's messing with a power structure that benefits you"

👆 this.

#Gender

Economics: "Humans only value things monetarily."
Sociology: "Uh, I don't..."
Economics: "Humans are always rational and value is calculated by complex internal calculus."
Sociology: "Uhhh, Psy, can you help?" Psychology: "That's not how humans..." Economics: "ALSO MY SYSTEM WILL GROW EXPONENTIALLY FOREVER!!"

I hate when I play the dinosaur game, make good progress and suddenly have internet again

A voluntary peer review system, but for pull requests. Instead of throwing money around, having meta discussions on how to run FOSS better, keep it simple. A group of people, including some real experts for the truly weird cases. Let’s call it the s-express (security express, and yes, when you remember the song, all the better). When you as maintainer receive a pull request that looks dodgy, you can forward it to s-express, who will take a look and report back with a first assessment in 24 hours

saw a clip on "How It's Made" last night about the making of paint rollers that started by pointing out that the inventor of the ubiquitous paint roller was awarded a patent for their invention but that they saw no economic benefit from said patent because they did not have enough money to be able to pay to enforce said patent.

it's always been a system set up for those that have to keep having and for those that do not to continue to not.

"intellectual property law" doesn't need reformation. it doesn't need to be fixed. it needs to be torn asunder, ripped to shreds and replaced with something humane.

dreams

When talking about lucid dreaming, people always say that not being able to read anything is a hallmark of being in a dream, but like... I can read things just fine in my dreams?
