@KuJoe Sort of; the extended support will only be valid until 2028, and will only cover security updates, ie. will not involve compatibility for future software releases.
@freakazoid Like, to be clear, I think it would be great if something like Linux became the default OS. It's just not realistic to view it as an imminent solution to a massive e-waste problem with a deadline of a year. There need to be other plans.
@freakazoid Right. But my point is that "make people Linux" is not going to be the solution here. It hasn't been the solution for the past 20 years and that will not magically change until a lot of very real problems that people run into are going to be fixed.
And that is going to take much longer than a year, save for some sudden miracle.
@freakazoid This plan is doomed to fail. Schools do not generally want a mishmash of different systems, because it is a maintenance nightmare.
@freakazoid Because there is a large amount of people who just need their Windows software to *work*, no ifs or buts, and they are going to upgrade to Windows 11, not move to Linux, if their applications don't Just Work under Linux.
And with Windows 11 come minimum hardware requirements that are going to make a ton of existing hardware into e-waste.
(You do not get to respond to this with "use Linux" unless you intend to spend your next year working on perfect Windows application compatibility on Linux)

Ik zoek (gratis) oude winkelinrichting - vooral kledingrekken en van die rekken met een paar 'graaibakken' boven elkaar. Het mag kapot of versleten zijn, zolang er nog maar functioneel bruikbare inrichting van te maken valt.
Dit gaat voor een kleine weggeefwinkel zijn, dus vooral de wat compactere dingen zijn ideaal. Laat het me alsjeblieft weten als je iets hebt staan, of iemand kent die wat heeft!
