@ansuz " It’s annoying for everyone involved and we believe that when a user publishes something publicly they want it to reach the widest possible audience. "

Ah, well, you see,,

In retrospect, the idea that we should monetize our free time, spare space, and unused car through gig apps should have been repugnant even without knowing it would lead to an entire industry of unregulated taxis and hotels

I think that what pisses me off most about this, is that all this grant money *could* have been used to do so much good, and could have been life-changing for people... but instead, it ended up basically 'seeding' some tech for a hypercapitalist cryptoshit company, to save them a buck

(It's Tether/Bitfinex who have taken it over, by the way. Yeah, the ones who have been artificially pumping up exchange rates.)

I sure wonder how all the past grant providers, such as NLnet, feel about the core protocol being taken out of open governance, and instead captured by cryptoshit scammers: github.com/dat-ecosystem-archi

@twofirstnames@tech.lgbt @ShadowJonathan@tech.lgbt So I was gonna recommend looking at Hypercore but *surprise*, they've been gobbled up by some horrible cryptoshit company

@kim Formerly known as the Dat protocol, and it was (formerly) a decentralized log-based protocol with no involvement of cryptoshit

Oh jesus christ, *of course* it's fucking cryptobros. Fucking hell. Well, RIP hypercore I guess.

Massachusetts HS can’t turn off lights <arstechnica.com/gadgets/2023/0>. Basically, they installed a ‘smart’ lighting system relying on proprietary software that the vendor no longer supports. The system failed and the lights are stuck permanently on.

And this, friends, is the problem with unfree software.

@Kye@tech.lgbt No dice :p Pipewire here. Might figure out how to do that at some later time, this is one of those things that's gonna be 50/50 whether it'll be trivial or a nightmare on NixOS depending on whether someone packaged something for it already

You can truly get some wild effects with a custom game boy camera rom

@flowers@kolektiva.social Would definitely recommend dropping by if you're ever in the Netherlands! Unfortunately I don't know if there's anything similarly-organized on the other side of the pond...

@Kye@tech.lgbt {Fortunately,Unfortunately}, I am not on Windows

@flowers@kolektiva.social This immediately reminded me of the polar opposite: nycresistor.com/2019/01/12/hac - though that's also not entirely without its tradeoffs, it can definitely cause the place to feel less spontaneous for people.

Everyone should read about the #prison trusty system. Not "trustee" (plural: trustees), but trusty (plural: trusties). I think it's key to understanding #patriarchy. 1/15
