@luckytran Also normalize wearing a mask when YOU are sick. I first had this explained to me in Japan in the early 90s when I was traveling there on business frequently. This is such a sensible and prosocial practice.

@davidrevoy @creativecommons from the 4 proposed signals (credit, direct contribution, ecosystem contribution and open), none of them is about forbidding the usage of the assets to train AI😬

@StroomAfwaarts @joepie91 Doesn't have to be "a standing thing". For example, I have trapkast, which I guess is technically more like a small room. Even has the same kind of door as the other rooms in the house.

@joepie91 Or even kastje, the universal word for something that does something and is roughly box shaped - or not.

"You can't just call everything a kast!"

Dutch: *points at thing* kast

re: rowling, actionable

@snaggen Those resources are neither interchangeable nor exclusive to a single concurrent task.

I want you to really sit and think for a moment why you felt the need to post "it won't work anyway" in favour of your own (arguably demonstrably ineffective) preferred tactics, instead of letting people make this assessment for themselves and embracing *diversity* of tactics.

And in particular, to introspect on whether this actually has anything to do with the effectiveness or cause at all, or whether it's really about your personal feelings and emotions that you're projecting onto other people's work, instead of processing those privately.

@tzeentcha I did find CalyxOS, the problem is that they have rather stringent requirements of the hardware to officially support it (bootloader relocking for example) which are very unlikely to be met by anything plentifully available in the global south - their general approach does not inspire me with confidence that they are open to extending their support coverage for the 'weird' brands (ie. those that people in the global north have never heard of)

Looking for a necklace with a nonbinary pendant. Can't afford much, but I know there are a bunch of crafting folks on Fedi. Anyone offering something like this?

#jewelry #crafts

Please do not bother responding with things like "you can probably find a broken Pixel for under $100 and then repair it" because then you really have not understood the assignment, and this is completely unrealistic for poorer folks in particular

Are there any Android distributions that work on cheap, easily-available smartphones, and that still try to do the best they can to protect the user's privacy and security, without being absolutist about it?

("Cheap" here means "$100 or under", to be clear)

re: rowling, actionable

@snaggen So what you're saying is that this call-to-action didn't interest you, and instead of moving on to something that *does* interest you, you felt the need to Tell Me About It and try to discourage others from doing anything in the process?

re: rowling, actionable

@snaggen And the point of this comment is?

rowling, actionable (3), PSA

And of course the usual personal safety PSA, for those who need it: you don't post about doing crimes on the internet.

If you want to draw attention to some kind of illegal action, then *at most* you have observed that the action has taken place, by some unknown individual at some unknown time, and are sharing that information with the world. But you were definitely not involved, because that would be posting crimes.

rowling, actionable (2)

Of course I'll leave the nature of said 'hassle' undefined, I'm sure you can all come up with some creative ideas!

rowling, actionable

@joepie91 this already happened to glinner and it can happen to her too, easily

rowling, actionable

@joepie91 This seems to have worked with Unique Vintage a couple years back. They got tons of, "super disappointed to see you all supporting hate, I won't be shopping here anymore" public comments and then all the stuff was just gone from the site in a week or two.

O...kay. A NATO jet flanked by three fighter jets just flew over.
