At times like these, it is incredibly important to remember that the peoples, cultures and faiths of what we now call the Middle East have lived together in peace for centuries.
We are being fed a story of eternal irreconcilable hatreds to stop us from seeing what's really happening. That the violence we see today is rooted in 20th-21st century imperial exploitation.
Don't fall for the racist, Orientalist lies.
@kytta I wonder if their 'verification' process is literally just "look it up on other maps like OSM and see if it says the same thing" so that they can claim that Technically, It Was Contributed To Us
@robinhood this is the shit you read when you hack into a computer in Fallout wtf
@robinhood Someone’s been playing Jumanji again.
@elilla "I'm guessing this must be a limitation of closed data access on the transportation companies?"
Yep, this is very likely the cause. All transport operators in the EU are *supposed* to be providing open transit data, but in practice that uhhhh doesn't really happen, or lots of barriers are put up to accessing it, so open-source things almost always have coverage gaps because they can't sign the NDAs that some operators require for access...
"address search wasn't as good as the DB app"
Out of curiosity, what makes it worse? I've never used the DB app so I'm not sure what the reference frame for a 'good' address search is here :P

Nuclear scientists eliminated in car bombings
Nuclear scientists? Civilians?
eliminated? Murdered?
grumbling about environmental discussions
@rune It's always either that or "well they're big so that means that we, the Europeans/Americans, don't need to do anything, right, because it doesn't matter anyway"
grumbling about environmental discussions
@joepie91 you just know they're beginning to wind up on their ecofacism "the world is overpopulated" trip
For the curious: my editor theme (in VS Code) is now Omni Owl (https://github.com/guilhermerodz/omni-owl), and my font is Annotation Mono (https://qwerasd205.github.io/AnnotationMono/) with font weight 500. It's *really* satisfying to type stuff in that!
The street that my mum lives in is a one-way street, but wasn't marked as such on #Google Maps. This caused many drivers to drive the wrong way. I have tried to edit it on Google Maps (there is such functionality), but to no avail. No matter how often I submitted a change (with photos of street signs!), Google said "Sorry, we could not verify it".
Solution: Edit the street on #OpenStreetMap! A few months after I did this, Google seems to have stolen the data, as it regularly does, and now the street is correct in both datasets!
@bananas I bet the unfairness would just make it more appealing to the target demographic
Do you remember when scientists were trying to create the thinnest material in the world, just one atom thick? It's great that technology has finally been put to use in #Travelodge toilet roll. #MaterialScience
In the process of moving to @joepie91. This account will stay active for the foreseeable future! But please also follow the other one.

Strong views about abolishing oppression, hierarchy, agency, and self-governance - but I also trust people by default and give them room to grow, unless they give me reason not to. That all also applies to technology and how it's built.
