isreal, eupol, piracy

I look forward to the EU declaring piracy legal now that they have to defend israel doing it

@raine (But then that would've required FOSS folks as a category to understand that there's a broader ethical component to the whole FOSS thing and well, we've seen how well that went)

@raine Yeah it does, public licenses were a neat little legal hack in their time but they're *really* not a very good tool for the long term, and the FOSS world really should've worked to build better structures and tools for this sort of stuff over the years 😕

@raine I'm not sure this would be possible; the GPL, like any public license, can only impose restrictions on usages that are normally prevented by copyright, so either "AI" training is a derivative work under copyright (and then the license already covers it) or it isn't (and then there's no way the license can make demands in the first place)

Looks like Mozilla is killing off one of their "AI" things, Orbit

#PublicDomain no AI icons! Meant to look well with the Creative Commons symbols (despite them not being anti-AI, last i looked at least) and yah, feel free to use on your instances or websites or art or wherever!

Here's the source so its easily modifiable too! freesvg.org/no-ai-icons

@starfire But I definitely would not be buying Logitech mice if it weren't for that

@starfire I mean, I've had generally much better outcomes with mice from other brands, just none of them make trackballs with a viable ergonomic configuration for me (and are also for sale in NL)

It would be funny if it weren't for Logitech making basically the only viable trackballs available here...

Another Logitech mouse, another mysterious failure of the middle mouse button in my hands. Like clockwork.

@FunkyBob@chaos.social I've done this in the past for some personal projects, though possibly that was a smaller scale than you're looking for.

It mostly involved 'converging' the styles first (identifying similar things and combining them into a set of shared semantic rules that's smaller and less duplicated in total), and then once that was done, changing the implementation of those rules.

The convergence step served mainly to prevent "oops I overlooked this one place that only partly shares this set of rules and now I accidentally broke it" by making sure that semantically similar elements actually use a similar set of class names.

The process is not that different from how I do this for other code refactoring, though in this case 'similarity' is determined by an element's purpose in the layout or design and visual style, rather than the logic of a function.

@anon_opin suppose you went home one day, inspired by some books you've read, and you invent a device that automates a repetitive part of your job

suppose you bring this to work one day and your productivity increases by a factor of 20

to your absolute shocking dismay, your pay does not increase by a factor of 20

this state of shock could be accurately described as luddism

LB I am once again promoting freesewing.org for size inclusive (like actually, they're based on measurements so they CAN generate a pattern in your size) free sewing patterns!
Nothing fancy but it's got the basics and you can combine pieces all you want and come up with a bunch of cute garments

@Stephanie Hmm, odd. Maybe they're not allowed to run heavy trains while work is ongoing?

@researchfairy Who called it a horizontal human suspension mech for gardening, instead of a plant bed

UPDATE! Het treinverkeer van NS in heel Nederland wordt op 10 juni stilgelegd.

UPDATE: All NS trains on Tuesday 10 June are cancelled.

Oh, NS, why must you torture me so? Not only is the intercity service run using SLT, but then a detour past The Hague means I get to look at all those comfy ICM, ICNG, VIRM and DDZ that could've run instead!

I mean, given that all intercity trains between Utrecht and Rotterdam use sprinter trains it might be something about this route that is not quite compatible, but still.
