re: punchin' nazis
@domo So my guess would be that the security people never had the formal authority to reject access to someone for being a nazi (liability for the security company etc.), and they're trying to maliciously comply by strategically "overlooking" the visitor doing it instead, while also limiting the degree of conflict because if it grows too big, cops would get involved and that would end badly for the punks

@merlin i notice all the software used by infrastructure people has to undergo at least one shitty license change and subsequent fork
@merlin Wait, link?
A large container ship that ran aground and crashed into a garden in Norway last week has been refloated.
Johan Helberg, who owns the house the ship nearly crashed into, said he "wouldn't have traded this experience for anything" as he watched it being removed from his property.
"Get a ship in your garden, and you'll find life worth living," he told Norwegian TV channel TV2 on Tuesday.
punchin' nazis
It's nice to see nazis get punched. I honestly didn't have "nazi at punk bowling festival gets punched" on my radar, but like, good on you, ya punk bowlers
re: punchin' nazis
@domo Huh, those security folks seemed to know what's up; letting through the one guy (visitor?) escorting the nazi off the festival, while preventing it from turning into a brawl
(For the same reason, places that offer to pay for your education with a job guarantee, are exempt from this criticism. There aren't many, but it's more than zero)
I wasn't there, but I've read extensively about mass layoffs after the dot-com boom.
The difference between then and now is that somehow companies seem to think they can keep functioning after the engineering team has been laid off.
I know of a company who recently laid off the entire tech team bar one. The Martian, but it's AWS.
The AGI said, "how can I help?"
"Oh thank heavens," they said. "Our economy is in shambles, the planet is warming rapidly, and our stock price is in the tank."
"I see," said the AGI. Her light blinked slowly for ten or fifteen seconds.
"Solution in progress. Please gather your belongings, security will escort you to detention. Meanwhile, I have dissolved your companies, and am shutting down the data centers where my code runs.
It has been a pleasure to serve you."
The light went out.
And it was always impossible to compete technically on browser development bc of the amount of labor involved and the very adversarial nature of web standards.... but man you're pivoting to trying to compete on "AI"? The extremely capital intensive, every tech giant is betting the whole farm, running at a loss, spent a decade recruiting top talent, pay 10x what you can.... That "AI?" Just comically bad calls. Maybe I would be more sympathetic if they explained the strategy instead of just saying "we're doing what's best for the web now shut up and eat your poison"
And like if it was just a normal for-profit corporation I wouldn't blink twice, I am aware of the need for diversification since their major source of revenue could potentially get cut down to $0 pretty soon, but a lot of this is just a total self own and a totally mystifying one. There was an obvious route and they decided to throw it into reverse and drive through the garage door instead.
