why must partition labels and filesystem labels be seperate

I have to say, Pewdiepie's video on Linux was... a lot better than I had expected.

i need advertisers to understand that putting an asterisk on a claim looks so insanely suspicious that they would've been better off not making the claim

@eta (And I see it more as "attaching consequences to choices" than as "violence", exactly, even though the mechanisms are similar)

Me Thurs:
Ug I am so burned out, I'm going on brain rest for a month!
Me Fri:
*does a bunch of stuff anyway*
Me Sat:
Ug why am I still so tired!?

@eta I mostly hate that it's necessary, but I'm happy to at least have a tool that works without requiring too many spoons from my side 😐

@eta Although the issue is less prevalent in NL, it does happen here as well, and I've taken to just deliberately interpreting what people say literally and applying it in such a way that it would get awkward *for them* if they didn't actually mean it.

It seems to get the point across pretty well most of the time...

to be honest a solid 80% of my problems socializing are due to this. even when around people who say what they mean I just do not believe them

i think it is high time that the fosstodon owner hand over ownership to someone with some awareness of the world we live in beyond the white male cishet paradigm.

seriously. this is like the third time in a year or so that they've displayed a disdain for anyone not like them. foh dude.

Here’s the one thing doctors genuinely don’t tell you about transition:

It’s worth it. It’s so fucking worth it. And statistically if you want to do it, it has the lowest regret rate of almost any medical change.

Yes. Even now. Even when it’s scarier than it’s been in decades.

It’s still worth it

In fairness, this is the now-in-the-garage cabinet unit that used to be part of the house, and about which the landlord rep commented (5 years ago!) "I'm surprised it hasn't fallen apart yet, I think you're the only one with one of these that's still intact"

@babe After recovering from my transplantation, I've gotten a lot of energy back, and I've been whirlwinding through the house several weeks now, catching up on years of maintenance and also redoing my entire garden to grow vegetables!

Being a software professional at the moment's a bit like being a doctor in a time when every hospital administrator believes the X--Ray specs they advertise in the back of newspapers actually work.

"In 1743 opende Jacob Hooy een kruidenkraam op de Amsterdamse Nieuwmarkt. Hier begon, met de verkoop van kruiden en specerijen, de rijke historie van het bedrijf. En aan de firma kleeft niet alleen historie, maar ook een brok nostalgie. Nostalgie vooral naar het oude en vertrouwde handelen in kruiden."

😬

Lovely. Measuring a cabinet and finding that its depth varies by several centimeters depending on where you measure...

"Google’s AI Overviews now reach more than 1.5 billion people every month" is factually true but leaves out the true story. It's not that people _want_ false AI summaries, it's just that a monopolist can do whatever. Google could add a cat picture to every search and then claim how their cat pictures now reach billions of people. It's not about the product that centered but the market dominance that isn't.

Just found a lovely new blog for my RSS reader and it wouldn't have happened if someone hadn't boosted a picture of a nonbinary cat furry staring at a CD

The lovely home of a local radio station, encountered purely by chance in Broken Hill earlier this week.
