Today's project was clearing out and reorganizing the garage, so that it is actually usable for projects again, and I can actually reach my tools and supplies properly. Pictures forthcoming, probably tomorrow! Battery too empty to make them now.

Yesterday's project was trying to finish my plant table - basically a large table that'll sit in front of the living room window, so I can put seedlings and such there so that they get a lot of sun.

It's made from some reused wood from old (no longer usable) shelving units, and some garbage-tier hardware store wood for the frame; the new hardware store wood is actually *worse* than the reused wood in many ways...

Anyway, I've almost finished it; I just had to wait for the glue to dry, then flipped it upside down, and now I still need paint the top... and then it's completed!

(It doesn't look particularly nice but that's okay - this is more a practice project than anything, to try out different techniques and see what works, and if something doesn't work, oh well - it's just a plant table anyway)

Beautiful light in Bryngarw park yesterday afternoon

Ik twijfel of ik de Gamma uberhaupt wel een bouwmarkt kan noemen, eigenlijk. Ze lijken vooral graag *producten* te verkopen i.p.v. materialen...

When a building site labourer needs to look busy, they pick up a broom. When an executive needs to look busy, they call a meeting.

The advantage of the broom is that it doesn't use up the time of people who actually are busy.

We should give executives brooms.

for the record before SRS I took 5mg every 2 days and my T was *nuked*, like it was lower than the cis girl reference minimum. I know trans women who took 2.5mg every 2 days and were fully in the cis girl range, but you definitely shouldn't take this thing for life, please go read transfemscience until you learn to fear it.

and stop taking 50mg ,100mg per day my Gods. 50mg at only 20 days/month gives you a 20× increase in meningioma risk. (same goes for medroxy—it's probably not going to kill you but please keep your usage of it time-limited or it *might*)

I do think LLMs capture the zeitgeist in one way: that we’re all supposed to just accept that things are a bit shite all the time, in tech and otherwise. That it’s just how things are & we shouldn’t expect better. Shut up, accept the slop, things getting worse, the enshittification. It’s just the way things are.

No, piss off. Things can be better, we’ve done it before. Just because some people can’t or won’t remember, doesn’t mean we all have to accept their low standards.

Trans und NB Kinder, positiv

Ich will mal Werbung machen:
Es gibt mit dem Trans-Kinder-Netzwerk einen Verein in Deutschland, durch den sich trans* und nonbinäre Kids tteffen und austauschen können.

Das ist so viel Wert!

Dazu gibt es einen Elternverein, der auch als Netzwerk funktioniert. Eltern, die sich gegenseitig versuchen Infos zu geben und zu unterstützen.
Ohne Expert*innen, aber durch die Größe des Vereins kommt da schon was an Wissen und Unterstützung zusammen.

Filtering fedi

Hmm, wish I could not see lottery's on fedi. But can't seem to find the right words to filter.

I guess some people mean well, but I can't not see them as some dishonest trade.

Tips welcome 🤷🏼‍♀️

@HeavenlyPossum A thing some folks have a hard time grasping is that

A stateless society does not have to be a not-organized society.

You can still have services, still have societal stability and still have security against the much feared feudal warlords and what have you.

Because assuming people stop existing and organizing the moment the state ceases to exist is actually silly.

re: serious answer

@ben I've found that the people who moderate like this tend to have a very different perspective of what constitutes 'a conflict', unfortunately, shit-flinging doesn't usually qualify but people being directly told they are wrong does

serious answer

@ben Because the "devolved into non-productive discussion" usually doesn't mean "there is bigotry", it means "there is overt conflict", which is a different way to view "someone called out the bigotry".

It's not a coincidence that this so often happens (in many places, not just on Steam) *just* after people start pushing back on the bigotry. It's what you get when a place is moderated by people who care more about avoiding conflict than they do about creating a safe and inclusive environment.

In the 15+ years people have been promoting blockchains, this flowchart remains undefeated.

@elilla This happens for me when my battery has fully depleted itself; it seems to be a problem with the battery controller's firmware.

Usually fixed for me by letting it sit on the charger for a few hours to trickle-charge and then re-plugging it to switch to proper charging mode.

Don't know if you have the same cause for the problem, but hopefully it helps?

@vxo Ah, this is a city bike so it basically has no rear suspension at all beyond the rubber tire 😅

I did specifically buy a (second-hand) bike with an old-style steel luggage rack - the newer aluminium ones tend to be rated for quite low loads and probably wouldn't fare as well with this kind of thing, and since I don't have a car, it kind of needs to... although the total *weight* of this stack wasn't that high, it was mostly just bulky.

I did notice it being loaded quite heavily! Bumps in the road were... not particularly pleasant.

subtoot, racism

@necrophcodr It is racist. Racism isn't just about ethnicity in a direct sense, particularly when systemic racism gets involved.

And the two claims (about Americans vs. Chinese people) are not comparable at all to begin with; because the root of racism is a power imbalance, and Americans are absolutely on the 'powerful' side of that imbalance.
