@ai6yr Oh, it was no problem at all! I cycled for about 45 minutes with this setup, from Den Bosch to Rosmalen, overal several steep bridges and messy city center traffic layouts, with plenty of bumps in the road along the way. It never even threatened to fall off 🙂

There's a surprisingly amount of stability you can achieve with criss-crossing bungee cords! A particularly useful trick is to hook the end of one bungee cord onto the middle of another; that way you permanently tension the other one while also pulling it towards a particular direction, so you get a very robust sort of triangle arrangement.

@oblomov I'm aware of the claim that automatic-parity salaries will cause inflation spirals and/or have been to blame for past instances of such.

I have never seen a believable explanation as to why that would be, and it doesn't make any sense when you think about it - the available amount of labour doesn't change, and so neither should the purchasing power. So it's something else.

It's kind of absurd that salaries don't automatically grow along with inflation, actually.

@dumpsterqueer I wish more projects explicitly stated their opposition to these sorts of events, perhaps that would tear some strips off the (unwarranted) credibility that those events still have to journalists, other people not very familiar with the community, etc.

anyway it's also always quite funny to look at the fedi profiles of the folks organizing such events because you often find, as in this case, that they posted like ten toots a few years ago and then fucked off - https://mas.to/@Identitywoman - and yet they purport to have sufficient expertise in "the fediverse" to organize a conference on the topic 🤡

in case anyone's wondering why GtS never bothers with these kinds of daft events it's prettymuch because a) we can't be arsed, b) we're allergic to corpo-speak LinkedIn bollocks and don't want to be around it because it makes us too sad to write code, and c) it almost always seems to turn out that one or more of the organizers are shitheads like this :pensive_butt:

"why not just use SWAT hand signs or the like"

- a sign language is literally infinitely expressive so you can expand it to fit any needs you might have
- you don't need to learn the whole language to benefit from knowing some signs so it's not significantly harder than learning a domain-specific code
- the number system of sign languages is way superior :p
- many cops probably know SWAT-type codes, maybe also the type of enemy who's into milsim etc. but unless there's Deaf ppl in their family or s/t, it's very low chance that they bother learning it for accessibility
- *you* are increasing your accessibility

concept: a core vocab list like
- numbers
- a few, many, none, gone
- ally, enemy, rando, cop, sus
- behind, front, left, right etc. (+o'clock number inflections)
- coming, going away, staying
- caution, don't look, followed, clear, quiet, hang on, stand up, act natural, look out for, scout, talk (out loud), change topic
- train, tram, car, taxi, bicycle, motorcycle, scooter
- people, adult, child, old, young, male, female, androgyn, PoC, white
- ultra, skinhead, querdenker, nazi
- go, run, call, text, encircle, mace, weapon, spray, bash

learn to sign to fluency, practice regularly with your crew. hm I already know 70%+ of these signs :catThink:

There is a toddler on this tram and he's so excited to be here. He was excited about his ticket (which he held very carefully in his own hand), he was excited to see the tram coming (but stayed behind the tactile paving as his grownup reminded him to), he's excited now that we've gotten to his destination...

Such an ordinary journey for me, makes me smile to think that this is such a big adventure at the same time.

Okay, it's time. Which linux is the one where it's easiest to install a theme that makes it look like windows 9x? #linux

I have finally remembered to drink water today
I guess this is a checkpoint, did you drink water today?

A friend who used to do tech support told me that he learned that instead of asking "is it plugged in" it was better to ask the customer to unplug it and plug it back in. Then they might notice that it was unplugged but they don't have to admit it. I think about that a lot

(I promise it's not my fault; I'm not allowed to do heavy work until I finish recovering from transplantation!)

@foone You haven't reached the maximum yet; that would've been if you'd downloaded an 'online installer' from visualstudio.com which then itself downloaded the actual application from vsdelivery.azure.net or some shit like that (no idea whether that host really exists but it probably does, it seems like a very Microsoft thing to do)
