@xgranade doctors who don't wear masks confuse me
the assassin, question
@aylamz There are quite a lot of oddities in the story (slightly mismatched appearance, apparently carrying all the evidence, deliberately identifying with a fake ID that the feds know about, etc.) so I've been left wondering.
It seems pretty clear that the guy wanted to be found, but what's less clear to me is whether he actually is the shooter, since if he wanted to be found, there would've been easier ways to do that?

Twitch's version of a wrapped report dropped and... hmm... I've become really, really uncomfortable with the idea of distilling things down to numbers so flippantly. Especially in a space where distilling things down to numbers then tying those numbers to success and even money is a lever for abusive practices.
If there's anything I've learned from a lifetime of constructing metrics, alerts, and statistical models it's that you never measure just what you think you're measuring. Any distillation is lossy, and frequently abusively and deliberately so.
@smveerman Oh oh oh, the puzzle cards! I remember those! Had great fun with them as a child.
every now and then i come back to this idea for a minecraft server where, rather than new players spawning at global world spawn, each player would be given a random, unique spawn point, suitably far away from every other spawn. to make it harder for players to meet up, the server would lie about the world coordinates (telling each player that their own spawn is close to (0,0)) and prevent chat messages appearing to players who are too far from the sender. but then, modded items would allow these restrictions to be overcome; say, a radio that can communicate with other radios over long distances, or a compass that points to the true (0,0).
the experience then would be a multiplayer server that starts singleplayer, with finding and meeting others - likely over very long distances - a major part of the arc of the game. i think it'd be interesting to see what people do with that.
now the sneaky thing is that you could hide this in some unrelated modpack or something: you think you're creating a singleplayer world, you're actually joining this secretly multiplayer one. i think that'd be a fun reveal (imagine exploring and coming across structures that look suspiciously like a player-built base!), but it would probably be against every terms of service so. maybe not worth it.
@two I think a real problem with the last part could be that people try to loot and take apart other players' structures for resources without realizing that they are player structures!
@silvermoon82 Yes it does, and the NODE_EXTRA_CA_CERTS env var (or alternatively, the `ca` property in the request call). You can also compile it with system OpenSSL but that can cause some weird results if it doesn't have the same cipher support.

Strong views about abolishing oppression, hierarchy, agency, and self-governance - but I also trust people by default and give them room to grow, unless they give me reason not to. That all also applies to technology and how it's built.
