As I cycle through wind and rain to the supermarket, I doff my cap to those who just unlocked the Dutch People Carrying Shit On Their Bicycles, Sinterklaas Edition. School's out and the surprises made by the children - large cardboard/paper contraptions containing a small gift - have to get home.

Just typed "interfae" and it's my favourite typo right now: an interfae is a protocol that two daemons use to talk to each other.

re: assassination

@elilla To me, it signals that something has changed, politically speaking; that there is now a broad recognition of an 'owner class' or 'billionaire class' as an enemy or at the very least not a friend, and that that recognition exists beyond a small group of radical folks.

It's hopeful to me in a way.

man, looking at the sentiment on social media for the CEO Assassin, i do not think the NYPD are gonna get many genuine tips. like i've never seen such a one-sided outpouring of sentiment.

Can someone with more Wikipedia chops than I have update this page to reflect that it's no longer GPL or open-source since 2022? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_Den

@lucydev Oh, alternatively some older scanners, I believe some of the CanoScan devices still don't work under Linux (not sure if that's a kernel driver thing though?) and they're usually everywhere on classifieds sites

@lucydev Those cheap WiFi 6 dongles on AliExpress? Quite a few of them have chips that are either partially supported (Bluetooth only) or unsupported in the kernel. If you get a few different <$5 ones you're likely to have at least some that don't work OOTB.

Does anyone know of some cheap linux-incompatible hardware i could use to practice writing kernel-drivers for?

Everything I have currently works oob with linux, or is made by nvidia (graphics is a bit too crazy for me for now)

The unilateral dunking on the recently killed pharma ceo is inspiring

Reminder: billionaires can, at any time, solve essentially all of the world’s problems by simply not hoarding an egregious amount of wealth. They choose not to. Every day.

"Mooi he." zei mijn tante. Maar ik vond er niks aan.

on the insurance CEO murder

I'm probably one of the most violence-adverse creatures I know and even I'm over here sipping tea quietly and nodding to myself going "Yup. It is a true objective fact that the people inflicting pain and suffering on everyone for profit have names and addresses. Mmhmmm. Indisputable fact"

Course for all we know this was something even more base than we think like "A business competitor did this". But we're all thinking the same thing and thinking it quite loudly.

back in college, i had a drawing prof who was really accommodating about accessibility options. he noticed me struggling to draw upright, and i explained sheepishly that i really need to brace myself against something when i'm holding up my hands/arms bc i tremble too much otherwise

i braced myself for getting chastised, but he just went "oh, just a sec", grabbed a long, wooden dowel out of a closet, propped it up against my easel and went "there, try leaning on that now". it was so much better

Well said! XD

Does anyone here on fedi work for a (preferably small) online retailer, and want to pull some strings internally to get me a price feed? I don't really care what format it is in, and country doesn't matter either. :boost_requested:

I'm trying to make a non-commercial product price comparison site (I'm absolutely sick of the affiliate spam everywhere and "just use Amazon" isn't good for society either) and it's extremely difficult to find public price feeds for anything.

The point here is to have a credible place to point people at when they ask "okay so where do I buy $thing then" that isn't itself a store, because monopolization is bad for everyone and 'ease of search in one place' is a big part of why people use Amazon. But writing price scrapers is taking forever!

Networking!!!

I used to naively think networking would be a neat way to meet people with common experiences and interests and make friends! Yay!

Heh, silly fox :neofox_3c:

“Networking” is either:

1) one of us wants to sell the other something
2) one of us wants a job at the other’s company

Like, that’s it. And you have to play this weird friendly chatty game pretending it’s neither of the above the whole time!

So weird and gross
