re: fascists and centrists
I'd be a lot less salty about this sort of thing if it weren't for the fact that exactly 0% of the people I am talking about here have ever acknowledged their error or shown any kind of retrospective reflection on how they got it wrong and how they might learn from that in the future

@inherentlee Thinking about it is only better if it leads to some action or change! Otherwise it's just sparkling self-centeredness!
Hey, cis folks? And especially men? If you want some low effort trans ally actions you can take, put your pronouns everywhere.
Like, everywhere.
On here, in your profile. On your other social media. On your own website. On your GitHub profile. On your resume. In your email ‘From:' header. Your email signature. Your business cards, if you have those.
Basically everywhere you introduce yourself, in other words. Make it pervasive, normal, set an example.
Then take your privilege, wield it like both sword and shield, arguing for gender neutral language everywhere you can. Legal documents, the works.
Let us see you fight for it ✊🏻
fascists and centrists
Thinking of the many, many, *many* times I tried to warn someone years ago (online or in person at eg. Revspace) of the fascist leanings of a supposedly "centrist" or "objective" or "neutral" podcaster or whatever, and those warnings were ridiculed because I was "seeing ghosts", and oops now it turns out they're all basically fascists
"Ik vind het mooi dat we gewoon spontaan, ongepland een hele maaltijd bedacht hebben!" sprak de kok van de avond.
Benieuwd hoe de kok van de avond denkt dat alle ingrediënten voor die "ongeplande" maaltijd naast elkaar op het aanrecht terecht waren gekomen toen het tijd was om te gaan koken. Kaboutertjes? Pieten?
This is was my first 3D printer, which I built from a kit at the my hacker space over a decade ago. Its X/Y axes are not perpendicular, but I was able to make it work anyway by skew correcting the gcode. I got it producing pretty good prints for the time, though it usually had to be retuned after each print.
I was thinking yesterday that I'm probably never going to bring this printer back into working order, and so maybe I should turn it into a MIDI instrument? 🤔
I also feel the world that let Twitter be part of the culture and be (at best) neutral/good is just dead at this point.
I don't think you can look at what happened since ~2012 to marginalized people Online and argue that having everyone exposed in the same place is the "best option". It really shouldn't be the *only* option, at the very least.
obscure community, music
There's a user on Youtube called GoldPile who has reuploaded psybient mixes by someone called Spacemind, and a small but persistent community seems to have formed around these mixes, with people wondering for many (9+) years now where Spacemind has gone and whether they'll ever return, and GoldPile having continued the style of mixes, but they now also haven't uploaded for a couple of years.
Every few months to years, Youtube recommendations send me back to one of these mixes, and they are still so good, and there are still people in the comments wondering where they went.
second-hand recommendation/observation
@jsjoshua I don't have personal experience with it (yet!) but GoToSocial is the one I basically never see people complaining about even though definitely quite a lot of people are running it, and I've heard good things of it. It's the one I intend on using in the near future.
@forestine The only description I have for design choices like that is "utterly disrespectful of people's time and energy", to be honest, it speaks of a callous sense of self-importance, simply assuming that everyone must always want to read their articles with the greatest haste... it's probably one of my least favourite tech developments of the past decade or so
@joepie91 the environment canada weather app has them now under a 'messages' tab. the 'messages' are articles about the weather 🤦
if a business pays a utility bill with cash then it will credit its cash account (decreasing it) and debit its utilities expense account (increasing it)
if a business has sales revenue then it will debit its cash account (increasing it) and credit its sales revenue account (increasing it)
so credit and debit have opposite meanings depending on the type of account
😵💫 😵💫 😵💫
(this is like double entry bookkeeping 101 for babies and all the accountants in the room are like yeah, just get over it)
Good morning, today we're headed out to join the picket lines of #AFSCME3299 :

Latest news from my bumfucknowhere rural town in Poland
> we have absolutely no public transport whatsoever
> so everyone has to drive a car everywhere, for everything
> that means having to drive to get to work, always
> that means places with lots of workers like the hospital, need a lot of parking spaces
> they obviously don't have enough
> so workers of those places park everywhere around, flooding parking spaces of the neighborhood disproportionately
> local residents complain because they don't have anywhere to park their cars that they also need to use to get to everywhere
who needs public transport anyways, that's socialism when a bus
