Man man man.

A few words on how to speak to/about #Native people:

1. We still exist. Do not speak about us in the past tense unless you are discussing history. We were not wiped out; don’t try to erase us again.

2. There are 100's of American Indian tribes/nations. We are not a monolith; don't expect us to be experts on cultures that are not ours.

3. Speaking of expecting us to be experts, don't come to Native people or communities demanding them to educate you. Start by listening.

a mime, a clown and a jester walk into a bar. everybody claps because they are respected members of their local community and everyone at the bar have all at different times found solace in the unique joy each of the 3 brings to their little town

@hazelnot I would recommend "block and move on" as the appropriate treatment, to be honest. Arguing with AI bros is just as pointless as arguing with blockchain bros, they're just looking for a platform to propagandize on.

When the train station at airport Schiphol opened in 1979, it did have 3 tracks. Although station designs in the '70s used to be very cheap, Schiphol actually got some budget for design. The 300 pillars in the station each got an individual painted design from Martin J. Schwencke, which, when looked from in the right way, appeared like an arrow. Later, the paint was replaced with tiles in the same colors. In the '90s, with the expansion of the railway station, everything disappeared behind new gray coverings.

But the tiles are still there, just not visible! Yesterday I noticed a strange looking pillar during a stop on Schiphol. Based on my observation, somebody visited the station the same evening and indeed saw that the gray cladding has been removed from two pillars :blobcatlove:

@pascaline @scientias @haayman Zo kijk ik er ook naar. Het is uiteindelijk een gemeenschap, geen marketingkanaal, dus zo lang je met die gemeenschap in gesprek blijft zie ik persoonlijk geen probleem met links 🙂

@scientias

serious advice from personal experience

@taq You may already know this but it's called 'executive dysfunction', it's really common in ADHD creatures in particular, though also happens in other situations. The "there is no practical barrier but I still won't do it" is the sign that that's what it is.

As someone who suffers from this for ADHD reasons, I've found a few ways to deal with it, though what works tends to vary by person a bit, also outside of medication.

One approach that has really helped me personally is acceptance; accept that I won't be productive all day, and that I won't recognize all productivity as productivity (because that's one of the traps of ADHD, you underestimate the work you do), and that this is okay.

An extension of that is the idea of "declaring the day wasted" - on days where I can't seem to get myself to do anything, I declare the day "wasted", which means I immediately drop all of my obligations for that day and don't "have" to do anything for the rest of the day at all.

About half the time, that relieves enough pressure that I will sort of naturally start doing productive things anyway (but without a sense of obligation this time!) because the problem was the pressure. The rest of the time, I get a relaxing day off out of it. Either outcome is fine. Overall I get way more done!

But all of this is in the context of recognizing that it's *fine* to not be productive, that productivity is something imposed on me, not a moral obligation; that doesn't mean I can survive without it, but that framing externalizes the sense of guilt (which would otherwise make the executive dysfunction even worse).

Long story short: to do more, try to do less. And depending on your situation and reason for your executive dysfunction, it may work for you too!

"We are so glad to have found you," the aliens said. "So many of our old friends are gone."

"We're so sorry to hear that," the human said. "What happened to them?"

"Oh, just the expansion of the universe. They were closer a few billion years ago. We write, but it's not the same."

@tastytea@very.tastytea.de Honestly I don't like it either 🤷

Thinking about my childhood memories of tearing through 400 page mass market paperback science fiction. The books all had this wonderful, slightly musty old book smell. The stories were always of futures far more optimistic than the one we're in now.

Do you use #Wikipedia (or any other #Wikimedia project) with JavaScript turned off?

I can't help but feel that there are some wild inefficiencies with home cooking: everyone buying and preparing their food individually. Communities should have some form of low cost co-operative cafeteria that prepare meals in bulk.

@JesseSkinner Fedi rather than Mastodon specifically, but otherwise I agree 🙂

Boost this toot if you're planning on sticking around Mastodon & the Fediverse whether or not it's more popular than Bluesky.

@serapath (RFCs usually include both but I've pretty much only ever seen RFCs and some XEPs do that, not any other specs)

@serapath Note that a security design document and a spec are not the same kind of thing; a spec tells me what to implement or how, and a design document tells me *why* it is meant to be implemented that way, and that's really important information for security analysis (and code comments are basically never detailed enough, they are missing high-level architecture)
