Loss leader is supposed to be used where you need a certain amount of volume to become profitable, and loss leader gets you there faster.
But underpricing can also be used to squeeze out competitors so you become a monopoly and then charge monopoly rents. Rent-seeking is what all capitalist corporations will do if there isn't sufficient competition in a market as a countervailing force.

I do appreciate some of my comrades beginning to understand that antisemitism is also a problem in left-wing spaces. All I can say is the sooner you act the easier this will be.
The Nazi bar analogy applies here. If you wait too long to kick these bigots out of your movement, it'll be their values that define the movement not yours.

I should probably clarify: "here" means my geographical location, the Netherlands. Although I've seen similar behaviour on fedi as well, it's not what I'm currently referring to!
@anji The car dependency is actually the biggest factor why! It means a significantly higher use (proportional to population) and therefore significantly more wear and tear, thus way more expensive to maintain and resurface constantly, and the result is worse roads.
I think it was Not Just Bikes who had a pretty good set of videos on how a lot of US places are functionally bankrupt due to these sorts of costs. The easiest way to make your roads nicer to drive on is to only use them when they're actually needed...

Als we er nou eens een gewoonte van maken om over de toegankelijkheid en (corona-)veiligheid van evenementen na te denken en dat duidelijk te vermelden, en we eindelijk eens wat gaan doen aan de wittemannencultuur, en als het even kan wat meer in "wij" te denken dan in "jij", dan wordt het misschien nog eens wat met de anarchistische beweging hier.

@rune I don't think they are, honestly, at least most of them; the impression I get is that it's just a movement that has (in recent decades anyway) mostly become about aesthetics rather than effects, because of a combination of repression and having it relatively good otherwise.
So a lot of the things it 'fights' against have felt theoretical for a long time, diversity has historically been bad, and there's just no healthy community culture that's (reliably) capable of introspecting and reflecting.
There are exceptions, but a few individuals do not make a healthy movement, and I've seen a number of them burn out already because of the general apathy of the broader movement.
@zkat pnpm typically uses a system-wide package installation folder, so the second 'install' is likely just linking into that

@joenepraat @SupportOccupyNL Ik geef expliciet aan dat ik niet verwacht dat je dit fixt, dus dat ik "de hele kritiek op je schouders leg" klopt niet.
Wat ik wel verwacht is een betere reactie dan de reactie die ik kreeg.
"Not all ____" is geen "onderkenning". Het is, net als "not all men" en "not all white people", een verschuiving van het frame waardoor het niet meer gaat over het op-te-lossen probleem (en hoe dat misschien opgelost kan worden), maar over iets waar geen werk vereist is en je het mentaal in het archief kunt stoppen als "valt wel mee". Het zal ongetwijfeld op sommige plekken goed gaan, maar dat is niet waar het hier over ging.
Dit soort "tja, is nu eenmaal zo, niets aan te doen"-achtige reacties zijn nu precies het probleem binnen de beweging dat ik probeerde aan te stippen, en waarom ik me er niet welkom en/of op mijn plaats voel. Er is totaal geen interne dialoog mogelijk. Ik vind het jammer om het ook in dit gesprek weer terug te zien.
En ja, met Joke Kaviaar ben ik bekend, en dat is dan ook gelijk een van de weinige mensen waar ik deze klacht *niet* over heb. En dat is een heel erg klein clubje.
Samengevat: kritiek leveren op de buitenwereld en de gevestigde politiek is makkelijk. Maar als je vervolgens niet oprecht in kunt gaan op kritiek op jezelf of de beweging, dan kan ik het vanuit activistisch oogpunt gewoon niet zo serieus nemen.

whenever i play basically any open world game i think about how tiny their towns are, like a town of less than ten buildings and i'm like that's not a real society, there are so many buildings in a city. and i kind of want to know how small a comfortably self-sufficient social unit CAN be. like i guess subsistence farming is a thing but what do societies look like that are a step up in scale from The Humble Yeoman Farmer
