I need my students to understand that to get away with openly committing blatant plagiarism you have to be a billion dollar megacorporation, which they are not

fictional robots have often been neurodivergent coded, so it's no wonder that neurodivergent people end up writing 2000 char posts about how they wish to be a robot

Fedi, help me!

Trying to find a Youtube vid, from at least 5 years ago, maybe much older. The concept was that the writer and animator from the channel had swopped places for a vid, so we were seeing what the writer had drawn based on the artist's script. The "story" was just a character going round and seeing a bunch of stuff that was really hard to draw; I don't remember them all, but one I do remember was the character saw 1,000 (1,000,000?) triangles, each with distinct lengths and angles.

Are you blind? Have you heard of the commandline, but don't know what it means or how to use it? I recorded a tutorial that shows how to use a popular commandline utility called YT-DLP to download the audio version of a video with a screenreader, and how you can apply this to other commandline applications. This will accomplish jobs more quickly and bypass inaccessible graphical user interfaces. I hope you find it helpful!

I really do resent the hamster wheel of being an adult for how it hobbled my capacity for creativity

Does anyone know where the queer potions emoji are? (Original source, not reups)

the new ayaneo retro handheld looks like what you'd find in a 2007 future consoles video labeled as "PSP 2"

@lexd0g Whoa, this instantly reminded me of the Dingoo A320.

For my non-Welsh-speaking friends, this is an example of a good translation. We so often see terrible translations on roadsigns, it's nice seeing something like this. Where the English says 'share with care', the Welsh is an idiom that means 'take it easy', rather than a word for word translation of 'share with care'.

Not linking directly because I don't want to shit on projects I believe are genuinely trying to make the web better, but every time I see a post about "the small web" or a more "humane" web or whatever that includes phrases like this about content: "created without the motivation of financial gain" I sigh so deeply lol

I am begging ethical web enthusiasts to understand what an extreme privilege it is to spend time working on something without worrying about money

this reply intended for the folks who feel called out by the thread

@sue As someone who also seeks to build things non-commercially to prevent perverse incentives: you can acknowledge this as a problem while still working to prevent those incentives.

It is entirely fine to choose *for yourself, personally* to build things for free. It is not fine to expect this from everyone else as a moral obligation.

If you want to build non-money-driven things, but also be inclusive, you just need to find a strategy where the privileged folks are doing the unpaid work, and others get paid for their work. Lots of ways to fund that, doesn't even have to involve commerce.

Yes, this is extra work, compared to "just doing everything for free". So it's a good thing you personally can afford working on things for free and set aside the time to figure this out, huh?

(Posting this as a reply to hopefully pre-empt other "non-commercial web" folks from trying to pit these goals as conflicting)

Watching a series and the characters are having a "first date" and its in a fancy restaurant wearing fancy clothes and meanwhile my preferred dates are like

Have a chat while
- riding public transport together
- walking through a park
and if that was a positive experience go to someones home, get comfortable on sofa or bed, talk about whatever and slowly move closer to one another if it continues to be a positive experience

I don't get cis hetero dates at all tbh

@wormerama That is disappointing to hear :(

Thanks for your efforts!

@smveerman Moet je je voorstellen hoe hard de text-to-speech van de Sprintervloot daarover gaat struikelen. Het gaat met 's-Hertogenbosch al nauwelijks goed. Misschien maar beter zo :)

It's really amusing to see everyone suddenly hating ASUS. I've been telling people to avoid this company for years and nobody listened to me.

I used to work in repair shop about half a decade ago, ASUS laptops were notorious for poor design and mechanical failures right after warranty period ended.

One notable example was a customer who brought ASUS "Pro" laptop for repair with snapped hinges - literally two weeks after warranty. There were no spare parts, so I called ASUS and asked if I could buy some - they wanted to compete with ThinkPads after all.

ASUS representative literally laughed at me over the phone because he assumed I didn't know what I was talking about (ah yes, good ol' misogyny) and told me to send machine in for repair and prepare to pay up to 2000PLN (450EUR) or f**k off.

When I told the customer I couldn't get parts and ASUS representative laughed at me, he got angry, requested the machine back, thanked me, threw it into our e-waste bin and walked out.

This isn't a new practice by any means. It's been like that for at least a decade at this point.

Just recently Jamie (friend of mine) bricked his NUC and router after installing newest firmware updates. I bricked my NUC 12 Pro with UEFI update from ASUS today. What a shitshow.

@wormerama A thing to be aware of: I don't know for sure whether this is a problem everywhere, but a lot of commercially grown supposedly-pollinator-friendly plants here are contaminated with (sometimes illegal) pesticides that can actively harm the insect population.

A Dutch ecology association recommends to plant certified pesticide-free plants only, or if that is not viable, to prefer natural growth of 'weeds' over actively planting.

So any request to a council should probably be accommodated by a specific request for plants that are pesticide-free according to the locally available certifications.
