I don't think this actually matters much in practice (I find it hard to believe that the NA organizers missed the shitshow around the EU conference, and the Foundation still seems to have okayed it in both cases) but I can imagine there will be some discussion points where the nuance matters.
(I assume it will take a bit before the signature appears)

@serapath @aral While there can be legitimate reasons to require some sort of technology for government services, I do not think that "time moves on" is one of those reasons.
It's a values-neutral statement; if you accept that "time moves on" is in and of itself a good reason to mandate technology, then that also validates it as a reason to mandate *unwanted* technology.
The actual reasons for mandating technology must be precise, well-scoped, and strongly justified.

I personally think it doesn't go far enough, but I also recognize that the scope of this particular statement is intentionally limited. This, to me, is only a small step, but one I do encourage people to take.

@ben I usually see RimWorld classified as neither, but rather as a 'colony builder' (which seems to be due to its relatively small scale and high granularity, as opposed to typical city builders)

Like, if you think that asking nicely works, then surely you are willing to do that work yourself, yes?

Idk who said it first but I find the sci-fi idea that earth *is the spaceship* very compelling. we are on a vessel hurtling through the cosmos that has organically nurtured various forms of life for an extremely long time!
