What perhaps pisses me off most in discussions about "should we have police", particularly with liberals, is the incredibly patronizing "well, they are necessary to keep society safe".
Like, do you genuinely think that we have somehow completely failed to consider this extremely obvious argument that has been thrown at us literally since we were children, and that gets reinforced on a daily basis in pretty much every form of commercial media that there is?
How is it in any way respectful towards your discussion partner to make that assumption? That they must have not only spent zero time thinking about the topic, but are not even aware of the ubiquitous argument that "everybody knows", and it falls upon you to educate them?
If this is how you start that discussion, then I'm sorry to break it to you, but you're not actually trying to have a real discussion - you're just looking for ways to convince *yourself* that all is fine, and harming the people you're talking to in the process.
@thomas FWIW, they are a registered bank in Luxembourg for all EU customers, so you can hassle them to unfreeze your account because they can't just keep your money under banking laws here unless they have a good reason

On a metaphysical level I never understood why so many people who align toward their idea of "chaos" are self-centered narcissistic dickheads.
That's the norm. That's boring. That's doing what everyone else with a shred of power in this world does. Focusing on your own power and how to grow and exert it over others is milquetoast privileged bullshit.
True chaos is what results when you use the power you know you already have to empower others. You want chaos, try predicting what an artist will do when you give them the safety, means and power to create.

No it's not a platform
it's a loose federation of a bunch of small social networks (one per instance), and any "a platform" that you might see is the emergent result of admins doing all the defederation and cleanup work behind the scenes
