Okay, but seriously

The idea that moderation should happen in the manner they suggest

1. If you *wanted* to make it impossible to defederate from a bad instance quickly, and you wanted to give them a chance to continue to abuse users, this is how to do it

2. Mandatory public receipts is a terrible idea if you care about user safety at all and will be weaponized

3. Voting about whether a thing is racist/sexist/homophobic aka having constant referenda about the value of these groups :yikes:

re: qoto, bad instance

@eldaking @researchfairy That is 100% the intention of the name

qoto, bad instance

@researchfairy I wonder how anyone still federates with qoto. Between the block evasion scandal, the "freeze peach" commitment, the extremely suspicious exceptions in their rules, proudly saying they don't block any instances...

And now talking about how bad it is when others defederate. Like, is there anyone that can't see this is a server with extremely low standards, that is constantly being blocked by a lot of people?

For fuck's sake, just the name. "Question others to teach ourselves", it is clearly an instance _focused_ on sealioning.

@JennyFluff@queer.af How I do this is by leaving a `// FIXME` comment in place so that I can easily find to-be-refactored parts of the code later. Could also use a more specific tag than that.

Welp.

I certainly didn’t expect the actual Raspberry Pi folks to announce hiring a former surveillance cop with such pomp and circumstance before dismissing concerned people with a genuinely baffling amount of snark and playfulness.

But that’s what’s happened and I’ve blocked the [former] cop and the entire Raspberry Pi instance as a result.

I’ll have to find another way to build a mini-computer as Raspberry Pi seem to have no issue letting a former surveillance cop work for them.

BREAKING: Raspberry Pi Foundation joins United Federation of Instances, Tony Blair welcomed the company in a short statement saying that they "have a lot in common".

re: fedi meta, UFoI, qoto

@david@tech.lgbt I've found this to be a good argument for that: old.mermaid.town/@triton/10947

Out of curiosity, which instance are you referring to with "one of their strongest supporters"?

tech bros will literally be like

my interests include
#ObjectOrientedProgramming
#SoftwareDevelopment
#BusinessToConsumerApps

why would you be so bland (yes these are all taken directly from a tech guy's bio)

re: meta / UFoI, slurs, antisemitism

@pinkprius@chaos.social Undoubtedly helped by the pretty clear vote manipulation on QOTO's side, there were some *extremely* suspicious voting patterns in there, like getting 19 downvotes within 11 minutes of posting a critical reply, while zero people actually replied to it

re: meta / UFoI, slurs, antisemitism

@sanctionedanya Oh, it 100% is that. Unfortunately the QOTO guy is very good at spinning official-sounding rhetoric that effectively catches the more, shall we say, politically oblivious

re: meta / UFoI, slurs, antisemitism

@sanctionedanya I mean, I doubt they even really looked at instance contents either, eg. this is a post on a member instance: m.azisserver.me/@Azis/10947056

re: meta / UFoI, slurs, antisemitism

@goat@hellsite.site And this instance was added to the approved member list some time in the past 8 hours, so there's no excuses to be spun about "well it looked different at that time" either

re: meta / UFoI, slurs, antisemitism

@pinkprius@chaos.social Of course, this is just the direct evidence of what folks have been warning about already.

Maybe it'll help in dealing with the usual "oblivious centrists" who see something that sounds official and legalistic and immediately skip any critical inspection and consider it trustworthy. Probably not.

@kim Ironically the RPi folks have actually blocked an infosec.exchange user calling them out

meta / UFoI, slurs, antisemitism

Yeah, so that "manually-approved federation of good actors" is clearly going very well

Yeah, not really feeling @Raspberry_Pi any more now they're beating their chest on the socials at how proud they are to have hired an ex-surveillance officer and responded to people's concerns like ~that~. Read the room. Cops (yes, even ex-cops), and surveillance creeps are a tangible danger to many of us here.
