Giving a whole new meaning to "getting screwed"

re: a*phobia, hypocrisy towards minors

@kescher @forever@toot.site @xeras When you think about it, really *all* conservative ideology just boils down to some form of "taking away other people's agency"

a*phobia, hypocrisy towards minors

@kescher @xeras @forever@toot.site Basically, it was never actually about kids engaging in romantic/sexual/whatever contact, it was always just about denying them whatever choice they desire, their default assumption is just that that choice is "romantic/sexual contact with others" for everybody

a*phobia, hypocrisy towards minors

@kescher @xeras @forever@toot.site It makes a lot more sense once you view it as "conservatives just do not want others (especially kids, who they view as property) to have agency over their own bodies", regardless of what decisions said kids end up making

I wonder if the people putting those "live" chat nag boxes (with a shitty chatbot) on their online shops, realize that they immediately lose me as a customer the moment something bleeps in my face

@maia Usually followed by 30 minutes of empty threats to arrest me but never actually doing so, because I have *technically* offered to show them my ID, I just didn't have it on me so they'd have to come along to my house, and that technically satisfies my obligation under the law

... with eventually a resigned sigh, going "fine, just tell me your name then"

@maia One of my favourites in NL is the mandatory ID law, which precisely zero cops actually know the contents of, and it's always really funny to watch a cloud come over their face as I recite the contents to them and they realize that shit, I actually know my rights, and they don't know the law well enough to refute it

i like knowing about laws that let me fuck over authority figures and corporations

it's also just useful to be informed about laws surrounding the space you're doing activism in, for your own safety and that of others

I've discovered that you can in fact de-acclimatize yourself to advertising, largely from removing exposure fairly consistently over a long period of time.

The problem with that is the intense sense of alienation and distaste you get when exposed (for whatever reason) again.

Curating your own sensory inputs at the cost of being naturalized to the consensus human experience. Yikes.

Here's a good video about the technology behind trackless dark rides in theme parks and how it works: youtube.com/watch?v=hfPYeKdIto (English subtitles are available)

But perhaps more interestingly, it has a dedicated segment about accessibility, and how they've used the trackless tech to improve it! :boosts_ok_gay:

climate change

@himbeer Yeah, they're *extremely* shitty. Some cities publish their contracts with them, it's worth a read if you can find one.

climate change

@himbeer Ah, of course it's JCDecaux again. The same company that has extremely sketchy contracts with many cities, where they negotiate *exclusive* outdoor advertising rights in exchange for supplying and maintaining street furniture, essentially creating vendor lock-in for the city because it'll no longer have its own maintenance facilities after a while, so stopping the contract would mean everything would fall apart.

But sure, streaming movies is the reason the planet is dying, definitely only individual responsibility at play here /s
