Here's a good video about the technology behind trackless dark rides in theme parks and how it works: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfPYeKdItoU (English subtitles are available)
But perhaps more interestingly, it has a dedicated segment about accessibility, and how they've used the trackless tech to improve it!
climate change
@himbeer Yeah, they're *extremely* shitty. Some cities publish their contracts with them, it's worth a read if you can find one.
climate change
@himbeer Ah, of course it's JCDecaux again. The same company that has extremely sketchy contracts with many cities, where they negotiate *exclusive* outdoor advertising rights in exchange for supplying and maintaining street furniture, essentially creating vendor lock-in for the city because it'll no longer have its own maintenance facilities after a while, so stopping the contract would mean everything would fall apart.

But sure, streaming movies is the reason the planet is dying, definitely only individual responsibility at play here /s

In more amusing news, yesterday a bunch of tractors blocked a supermarket's distribution center, and in response the supermarket blocked the tractors with a truck

Apparently cops have now graduated directly to "shooting at tractors" - no people seem to have been hit, clops claim they were "warning shots", video clearly shows otherwise
This is definitely all going very well

Hello, @EU_Commission…
EC: Is something troubling you ?
Me: Are you a bot?
EC: Would you prefer if I weren't a bot ?
Me: Yes.
EC: I see.
Me: So…?
EC: Do you feel strongly about discussing such things ?
Me: I do.
EC: You say you do ?
Me: Yes.
EC: I understand.
Me: And about my question?
EC: Your question ?
Me: Yes… are you a bot?
EC: What if I were a bot?
Me: Then you should be labelled as such.
EC: We were discussing you -- not me.
Me: *sigh*
EC: But your question.

@lilithium@eldritch.cafe Not that I know of. I tried my best to make a nice community out of PG back when I still was a mod, but with someone "higher up in the hierarchy" (dngray) suddenly deciding to involve themselves in it and Exercise Their Authority, that job was very quickly made impossible...
@wim_v12e @gargron @EU_Commission
I live in Brexit island (I didn't support or vote for it) so no longer can contact MEPs etc; but the way the Commission have set this up with 0 replies to the public comes across almost like a 1980s propaganda operation (even though I agree with and support a lot of what they are saying and doing!)
It was a perception of Brussels being "unaccountable" and "untouchable" which in part led to Brexit in my country..
"Child-rearing doesn't have to be authoritarian and oppressive. We can help guide our children, and develop their capacity to advocate for and assert themselves without being coercive. The best way to protect young people is to protect them FROM the institutions that were supposedly set up to protect them, but ended up hurting them the most."
This is an excellent video that expresses what I think better than I could.
@aeva @efi Unix Express: All passenger bring a piece of the aeroplane and a box of tools with them to the airport. They gather on the tarmac, arguing constantly about what kind of plane they want to build and how to put it together. Eventually, the passengers split into groups and build several different aircraft, but give them all the same name. Some passengers actually reach their destinations. All passengers believe they got there.

Strong views about abolishing oppression, hierarchy, agency, and self-governance - but I also trust people by default and give them room to grow, unless they give me reason not to. That all also applies to technology and how it's built.
