Question for plural folks, feedback needed :boost_requested:

Assume a chat system that allows you to have multiple accounts, and which also allows you to select a 'presented identity' on a per-message basis (under an otherwise shared account that is identifiable as such).

Does this meet your needs, and if not, what other accommodations are needed to make it a comfortable experience for you?

(Please only answer if you consider yourself plural or have some other reason for presenting as multiple identities. Boosts are welcome from anyone!)

@joepie91 It does meet my needs, as long as the list of alt identities is not public to my account/friends list/all groupchats i'm in. People should only get to know about my system members (or, for that matter, OCs I roleplay as, because this feature would 100% have this dual purpose) if I explicitly allow them to know.

@MindmeshLink In the model I am thinking of, that would require the use of multiple accounts (with implementations being expected to support this out of the box); as different alts would otherwise still use the same technical identifier under the hood, and so it would be possible to correlate that together. I don't think that can be (reliably) avoided without separate accounts.

Would that work? Assuming that account creation is not limited (ie. no "unique phone number per account required" stuff or anything like that).

@joepie91 I think you may have misunderstood (or i'm possibly not understanding you!) It's fine if the system members are visibly related to eachother if you're able to know about them/for them to be visibly linked - i just don't want someone on my friends list to be able to click on my profile and see a list of system members they wouldn't otherwise know about, unless I explicitly give some kind of permission

@joepie91 see, like, setting a nickname in a Discord server and other ppl only knowing that nickname if they're in that server with me, as a comparison of the kind of privacy I'm talking about

Question for plural folks, feedback needed :boost_requested:

@MindmeshLink Ah, right, I get what you mean now. I will keep that in mind, though I think that that technical distinction will be very difficult or impossible to make in the model I'm working with (hence why I would probably err on the side of total outward separation, rather than on the side of unintentional correlation).

@joepie91 That makes sense!!
