blinks. So, now, Mastodon just leans hard into the dark patterns, and eats up half of my notifications column with a thing demanding to enable desktop notifications, and no way to dismiss it. 🙀

To add insult to injury, the annoying demand is laid out in a way that's more attention-grabbing than toots and such:

bright blue button, with an all-caps label;
different typography than the surrounding elements;
wider margins, which makes it pop out more (and eat more space) : even though “Never miss a thing” is only 1px bigger than display names, it seems much bigger due to its ample breathing room.

damn, I put my bluetooth speaker on my chest and blasting some Techno to wake me up

it's like i have a second heartbeat

so much of art predicting (even live!) butterflies are actually drawn after dead, pinned butterflies in an unnatural positon :<<
basically, if the line between top and bottom part of the wings is horizontal, it's ded
first picture is a live monarch butterfly, second is a (drawn) dead one, notice how different the wing position is

I'd also like to think I know people's tastes well so I'll come across a new piece of amazing music and send it to the corresponding people

Just so folks know - academics don't get paid for journals or any publication except books that They are the first name author of, and occasionally if there are graphs and whatnot you have to pay for those to be included (more likely in STEM)

If someone criticizes you for sharing PDFs as "taking money away from people" that isn't true. Now, people downloading PDFs can be good for a person to show that their article is being used and whatnot.
All journals should be free. That's not on you.

Sci-hub and share away.
