the IKEA now has a reusable mask, the VETSKAP, for the price of a throwaway at 1 euro for 2 masks.
good quality, fits well, and good for 11 uses (10 washes)

turns out the 74HC4017 (the supposedly fancier version of the standard 4017) doesn't have it's schmitt-triggers, which made it behave so strangely
luckily it's footprint and pinout compatible with the normal 4017 so these boards can still be used :D
