@rune file based things don't make too much sense to me either, the media routes are a decent but very simple system to access remote stuff, so not that interesting to build upon unless you're actually doing interesting things to improve on that conceptual model
@rune I think the majority of development will continue to happen on the chat side of things (especially due to Element, but the other bigger Matrix projects are all chat (related) too). The spec is nice and extensible, also without spec changes so if people want to experiment, let them find out if it makes sense or not :p
this codebase sucks and i hate maintaining my fork for it, but it must be done
