turns out the 74HC4017 (the supposedly fancier version of the standard 4017) doesn't have it's schmitt-triggers, which made it behave so strangely
luckily it's footprint and pinout compatible with the normal 4017 so these boards can still be used :D

after the milk warmed up a bit, add a few scoops of oats (can always add more later so not too much)
keep stirring till it thickens, near the end optionally add some sugar
one of my favs is also adding cinnamon with the sugar, and adding apple in cubes to the finished bowl
