ok it's 'shada' being very broken, running neovim with -i NONE to disable that now..
not sure what the fuck is wrong with my neovim but it takes ages to save/exit

my desktop case has this horrible PCIe connector slot system that requires breaking out the metal tabs to access that slot, and the support mechanism just doesn't hold up anything
this fractal design 304 is actual solid metal, and a muuuch better system where you can remove and add back the cover plates when needed. also it screws on tight, actually supporting your card
i should really get fancy cute motds set up for all my servers
