Mastodon quickly going down as I migrate the postgres storage from disk to disk (bulk has already been copied so shouldn't take long)

tech

@erikk@chaos.social yeah, it's something i've been thinking about for a while now. Either a Hetzner dedi (but having stuff physical and owning it is nice), something with the unused 1U server that's been laying under my bed for more than a year now (but big, and noisy and not that powerful), or building something nice in a (mini)atx formfactor

tech

@erikk@chaos.social let's see, sda is an M.2 Samsung, sdb is a crucial 2.5" sata

it's all in a Lenovo Y500 cursed gamer laptop so no nvme haha

tech

@dumpsterqueer Synapse is (as always) rather inefficient in storage as well. Most of our storage is used by irc bridged rooms due to the huge amount of permission (/op *) and join/leaves (netsplits etc) events.
They can be largely compressed with github.com/matrix-org/rust-syn but that also takes ram/cpu/network cycles that currently aren't available, although I could run it overnight sometimes.
I think the server is about 2 years old now?

tech

@dumpsterqueer most of that db is synapse, it also hasn't been VACUUM FULL-ed in a long time (but that needs more free space so can't do that now)

the RAID setup is rather interesting, technically sdc is also a degraded RAID1 after a very interesting migration where I swapped out the other hdd it was raided with, for the 500 gb ssd

the joys of limited disk options in a laptop :')

tech

@dumpsterqueer so, terra has a rather.. interesting disk setup as it's a fully kitted laptop;

sda - 240GB ssd
sdb - 500GB ssd
sdc - 2TB hdd

sda is in RAID1 with half of sdb, and that's currently the 230GB fs that is mostly filled by the ~160GB postgres files

so currently the possibilities are moving the db to hdd (meh), moving it to the currently unused other half of sdb (no longer RAID, meh), and maybe for the longer run replace sda with a 500GB ssd as well once i get paid/go around with the donation hat like last time

fuck the day has finally come where pixie.town's root disk is (basically) full.
Removing logs is enough to keep things up for now but needs actual changes

@dumpsterqueer as a sidenote, "she/the company" are some.. interesting pronouns :PP

better set an alarm though otherwise ill wake up tomorrow or, somewhere in 5 months

Show thread

assignments finished and handed in now to decide if I go back to bed (rather tempting) or actually go shower and wake up

@erikk@chaos.social yeah, just no project yet where those features weigh up to the feature of wireless internet :P

maybe I should design something STM32 based for a change

ESP32 is just so nice to have WiFi tho :/

Lush, UK, Terfs

Just in case anyone was wondering about Lush's recent support of the TERF org Women's Place UK, not only did they support a TERF org, it turns out that Lush stopped supporting Sisters Uncut 4 years ago because they are Trans inclusive (twitter.com/Aviah_Sarah_Day/st).

So unless any apology from them comes with a withdrawal of support for TERF orgs and a big donation to Sisters Uncut, I'm going to assume they are TERFs too.

(note: I mean the people at the top. I suspect a lot of people who work for Lush in their stores are trans inclusive)
