I don’t know who needs to hear this, but if you are struggling with your transition I highly recommend the vague but great advice of “Just try things.”

Do lots of different things and take stock of how you feel. And then do more things. Listen to yourself. Trust your own psychological and emotional responses. Some things won’t work, they won’t work at all. Stop doing those things

And when you find things you like, do them more. Find more things that give you that positive feeling.

Just, don’t ever give up doing shit.

@AudreyJune this is exactly what I mean when I make the lightning bolt analogy

lightning doesn't get it right on the first try, instead forking off this way and that, trying out various possible paths, but eventually all that forking about finds the path most suited to the lightning bolt, then it commits

the forked paths don't lead all the way to the ground, but that's fine, those were there to find the path that not only did, but did so in the best way

the lightning bolt discovers itself by continuous experimentation

@cblgh is usd the correct currency to send? that's what paypal suggests

if you were at #36c3 and enjoyed the origami teahouse in komona, we lost a few items over the course of the congress (mugs, half of an electric kettle (?!), teapots) you can send us teahouse organizers a donation to help cover costs:

@ida yeah i got one when it was on 90% sale and I really like it

But Jenny drew me charges
And she filled them up with water

@nw iirc the Kindle very much locks you into the amazon garbage. Kobo's just have a microsd where you can put your own (totally legally sourced from the internet) ebooks. I don't use my Kobo Glo that much anymore but it's great

my friends told me to "try wasabi nuts" and I did but turns out I'm not really into CBT, jfc this burns

Over the last few days we've had constant requests to respond to @moxie@twitter.com's 'The ecosystem is moving' blog post & recent 36c3 talk - we've tried to articulate Matrix's viewpoint over at matrix.org/blog/2020/01/02/on-.

@vecna@www.librepunk.club doing something that changes font-sizes, or colours for different contrasts/colorblindess, while technically possible with just css, is still much easier to implement with a tiny js snippet. It also doesn't impact people who disable js/use lynx/dial in with gopher or whatever soo Progressive Enhancment(tm) y'all

uff, I wonder for how long seeing 2020 in timestamps next to posts will still feel weird

@melissasage @lesbianhacker I run both writefreely (on write.pixie.town) and plume (on pixie.garden) and they're both kinda meh :/

plume is definitely earlier in development still, with occasionally just random crashes and less features, so write.pixie.town is what we mainly use

@faehnrich as someone who only got into pcb design very recently, it's not *that* hard. Kicad can be a bit rough but is good free software, with a bunch of video tutorials around to show you around.

Then for the artsy stuff it's importing designs made in inkscape, and assigning them to the right layers to get the desired effect. due to a pcb's layered design you have some combinations of colour and height

finally took the time to properly go through the entrance requirements for the thing I want to study next year.
I'm getting pretty fuckin hyped lets hope I am one of the 350 students that make the procedure

@faehnrich me and friends sorta went further on this, making things with the pcb as the art medium, instead of just hidden internals.
tilde.industries/watch-dial/ for example doesn't even have electronics :P
for social.pixie.town/@f0x/1034024 I made routing way harder by keeping basically the whole front empty to put art in the copper layer

@chr oooh
now I have to choose for the water bottle pcb, as it will indeed be hidden

considering this from the longer "What is a drop of rain compared to the storm? What is a thought compared to the mind? Our unity is full of wonders, which your tiny individualism cannot even conceive." - The Many (System Shock)
