I decided to stop using gmail and all google products in my life so, 6 months ago, I made a domain name and started a subscription to another email provider.

Saw this argument a couple of times, that I shouldn't expect poor indie dev or poor freelance designer to shun AI because it is not their fault AI exists, comparing it to "personal carbon footprints" (rhetoric created by oil companies to shift blame into individuals).

Look I'm not blaming anyone for the crimes of OpenAI, Anthropic, Microsoft, Google, nvidia. But I am blaming them, and I expect you to do the same! It is not about your personal contribution to global warming or your personal plagiarism, it is about you siding with and contracting (even for free) these evil companies.

I stopped trying to debate software devs on LLMs a while back. Even if they could be budged on empirical grounds, they are explicitly fine with using tools that are themselves deeply unethical

Debating people who look past "chatbot psychosis", the dismantling of the education system, the gendered abuse, the generated CSAM images, the overt attacks on the media industries, or the ultra-right's glee about "AI", by showing them a well-constructed academic study is never going to work 1/n
