Animal photo 003: gorgeous moth
Animal of the day (003)
This absolutely stunning moth is called the Giant Leopard Moth. "Giant" might be a slight exaggeration, as it only reaches a wingspan of about 3 inches, but isn't it just fluffingly gorgeous? It is endemic to North America, from Columbia to southern Ontario, Canada, where I live. I have yet to see one in the wild, but it is known to be attracted to bitter, unripe vegetables and broccoli flowers, so I know what I've got to do next spring! With a bit of luck, I'll one day reply to this post with my own photograph of one of these charismatic arthropods.🤞

there is one thing about “human nature” that i wish everyone knew and knew to appreciate:
when you talk to artists and creators, there’s a single specific sentence that you hear every single time. and if you’ve ever created something – if you’ve written a book, improved a wiki article, crafted a piece of code, designed an infographic, recorded a song, or did anything else out of your own volition and put it out into the world – then you’ve probably said or thought this sentence yourself.
you won’t be surprised that i’m talking about this one:
“if this helps even one single person, it will all be worth it.”
that is human nature.
patreon rebrand
Patreon got rid of their cute randomly generated fox avatars in favor of weirdo blobs, and in doing so they also deleted the GitHub repo for the old generator and the blog post they made about it
which is just. bizarre, to me
I found a fork of the generator, but it was outdated (latest commit 2017) — the Wayback machine had only the repo homepage as of 2020, but that was enough to get the commit hash for the latest commit at the time
GitHub hasn't GC'd the repo yet, so I was able to pluck that commit off their servers and make an archive of it despite no current repo referencing it
it might still be out of date, but it's better than the random fork i found
the blog post: https://web.archive.org/web/20230522195254/https://blog.patreon.com/an-open-letter-to-boring-avatars-everywhere-meet-foxes
the generator: https://git.sleeping.town/mirrors/foxy-moxy
it's funny to me because their new avatar generator has exactly the issues the writer of the original fox avatar blog post was complaining about
Did you know about PromptFont?
This is a special font that I made which includes glyphs for all sorts of button prompts on all sorts of different gamepads and devices. Since it's a font, you can easily include it as part of text and scale it or colour it however you want.
You can find the font available for free here: https://shinmera.github.io/promptfont
If you want a website that does a good job at listing open-source fonts, look no further than Uncut (no cookies, no ads & it links to original websites and doesn't host font files) https://uncut.wtf/
I drew something for a streamer's version of #inktober called #homietober
A bunch of prompts they made up with their homies.
Anyway here is day 4 Harvest.
I'm doing CuteGirltober2023!
