inexplicably remembered a dream where Alucard woke up in the early 20th century and found a small church commune in the countryside that had only really used electricity for things like radio and a shiny new thing called a television for seeing the world beyond.
also he did stuff around the place for room and board, and I got him to do the dishes with me, admiring his politely educated manner even while the headmistress kept trying to expose him for vampirism and heresy, even though she was vexed by him living in the church just fine. mind, she also thought the TV was heretical and only reluctantly allowed it because it didn't explode.
