The #Meta plot thickens! Turns out that #Facebook doesn't actually own the name Meta because it belongs to another company that's currently in stealth mode.

That didn't seem to stop Facebook from publicly announcing the name change and branding, quite the Zuck move.

Meta (the real one) have posted a public letter about this on their front page. I'm linking the Archive copy because the front page will be eventually replaced by an actual website:

@bunny_jane Yeah, this is always a difficult line to balance. I try to give my sympathies and extend an offer to assist rather than try to immediately, though I notice that never gets followed up on either so idk if it works :/

hello i am putting beeping.town in suspended animation for the time being

the SSL certificate expired in august and i haven't had the time to go in and fix it, nor am i particularly enthused about doing so. so i'm going to shut down the instance and take a disk image backup
