AMBAC. Active Motion Balance And Control. According to official setting materials, this is how mobile suits in the Universal Century maneuver in space without expending propellant. This is supposed to be the reason why they have arms and legs. However, they're almost never animated like this.
I think it would be beautiful if they were. This footage is of NASA astronauts using AMBAC (although they wouldn't call it that) to perform aerobatics aboard Sky Lab.
