Dreamt about an ordinary guy who has a lot of extraordinary stuff happen to him.

Once a street musician, he and some friends of his ended up piloting a giant robot to fight off an alien invasion together. He longed to go back to normal though, so he moved on.

One day, he accidentally bought a cursed flashlight that showed the worst possibility of what it was pointed at. After hitchhiking with some folks, their convertible broke down and then a rainstorm started, and after fruitlessly trying to pull up the roof, the group went to look for a cave.

That's where the curse really set in, because when shining the flashlight on the entrance, they made it a cave that led to another world trapped in the night, and trouble only continued from there. With the flashlight, scratching in attics turned out to be zombie attacks. Rivers were full of dangerous fish. Quicksand hounded their path.

Eventually the party was split and most ended up victim to that world's natural pulls, but the curse kept the one guy away from them by keeping him on the run until he finally grew strong enough to both recognize the curse and resist it, along with the wonders of that other world. Eventually he found a way to purify the curse, and that in turn made the flashlight take the fantastic of that world and turn it mundane again, which he used to free his erstwhile hitchhiker buddies.

Once free of that world, they got what they needed from some robots to fix their car then returned to the real world, but the pull was still strong. One by one, the hitchhikers fell to their desire to return and died, letting them return in the afterlife, until it was just the one guy again who longed for the mundane. He took his guitar and went back to the city, where he found his street musician friends and shined the flashlight on them briefly before rejoining them.
