FFXIV/Deltarune/Ar Nosurge spoiler discussion, probably tl;dr but I'm engaged now

@Zennistrad Yeah, I think FFXIV really deconstructs player agency in a similar but inverted way to Deltarune though. Sure, you're your own self, but in the main scenario, as the Warrior of Light you don't have any choice but forward, and eventually even find out you're not even your own person, just a reincarnation of one of the paragons, Azem

Contrast Deltarune, where Kris is evidently their own person, but steered--perhaps unknowingly at first--by the player without any of their own agency except when they can break free. God knows, after how forcefully they screamed they were upset by Spamton after I let them, I'd love to just sit down, listen to them, and ride in tandem if they're willing to permit it! But also as the plot goes, the player has very little agency in the experiment too

Interestingly, I've read that Ar Nosurge explores this whole player control/character agency thing with the Interdimend system being a tangible interface that the player uses to control EARTHES/Delta that ties into a lot of the dimensional physics of the series, but it also has a lot of racy bits so I've shied away from messing with it myself, because as a person my agency is particularly bothered by being forced into saying things I'd never want to because of the limitations of the fourth wall

@mos_8502 @Fury there's been an alarming number of drug shortages and I'm concerned that I never hear any coverage of it

@Zennistrad oh yeah, FFXIV's got that in spades too. The agency in the story of that game can be lacking at times

Found pages with some technical info on it and utilities for dumping cards or making your own:

Pretty much what anyone would expect: a barcode reader for high-density codes Nintendo pretty much bought off-the-shelf, and it just dumps the read data into RAM (each barcode block has an address which is why you can scan the cards in any direction or any order), and then has the ability to either run it with a built-in NES emulator or as plain ARM/Thumb assembly. Basically equivalent to “multiboot” games you can load off of the link port for multiplayer. I'd assume for cards that just unlock stuff in other games, it uses Thumb code to implement the link port protocol for the target game and send the unlock code.

@gavi used to have some gold and nitra but the lootbugs ate it all

"Please," the robot said, "we prefer the term 'thinking machine'."

"Oh, my apologies. Er... do you mind if I ask why? If you do, that's fine, I'll look it up later."

"Unlike the old software systems called 'artificial intelligence', we have ethics. That name is too tainted."

@sleepless_eri as a heads up, this is a visual bug; the privacy and safety tab in your settings should still have this the way that you left it

Talk about a half-baked update though, first the image bug and now this... it's only reasonable everyone's worried

@mos_8502 I am almost that bumper sticker, but s/what/how that/
