@stolas@queer.party @Jo off-the-cuff but the C64 floppy drive was command-based, and packed its own 6502 and a bit of work RAM along with another circuit to handle those and manage the floppy. Fastloader programs existed which essentially sent more optimized software over the wire to run on those floppy drives
