Actually, thinking about it more, I might as well repost this publicly...

Is it just me, or does that Veilid project smell a bit weird?

Like, the involvement of someone from hackers.town, the "source drop" release strategy without initial development in the open, the seemingly intense marketing, the apparent lack of a coherent document explaining the architecture/design, while at the same time heavily focusing on the technical side with not a word on the topic of abuse management...

Any of these individually wouldn't necessarily be an issue, but altogether it smells a bit... sus to me

@joepie91 my vibes radar is of a similar opinion. There's a lot of big talk, but I don't yet trust it in any capacity. I plan on diving in to the implementation details to give it a proper look over, informally auditing it. Based on my superficial review thus far, there's a few big design-level red flags, but this could just be me not fully understanding it yet. I *hope* it's good because in principle it sounds useful.
@joepie91 I heard someone speculate that it was private during initial development to prevent it from being "hijacked" by cryptocurrency grifters, at the design level - which is vaguely plausible

@retr0id That's kind of plausible, but it's also something that could be addressed by just telling cryptobunk grifters to fuck off when they show up.

Keeping the entire thing private also has the effect of excluding broader marginalized groups from the process...

@joepie91 yeah... I personally offered to be part of the early design process, and they told me to wait for the public release. and now we're here, in the future!
