respirator rec? 😷👺🛫:boostsPorFavor:

hello! i am going to be on an intl flight next month and would like to not get murderized or sick! what masks/respirators would you rec?

- i'm willing to spend for my health (espc if it's reusable)
- it'd be great if the respirators were reusable

(other safety practices are welcome too! previously i'd use reddit but nope :P)

respirator rec? 😷👺🛫:boostsPorFavor:

@ckie Sumana posted an amazing rundown a few days ago, including P100 recs

respirator rec

@ckie 3M 6800 series has the best seal, FF-400 has a speaking diaphram so easier to be understood in+slightly more comfortable but we've found that FF-400 series can be finicky to get a proper seal with.

both are 3M bayonet (so could easily be converted to PAPR or supplied air if you need even more protection),

digikey.com is our reccomended distributor, iwrc they have best price on 3M PPE

respirator rec / long rambling answer

@ckie am very late to this party, but! i have had super results from Flomasks, for myself and my child. I'm immunocompromised and haven't gotten it while flying with a flomask, and my child hasn't either (and is also small enough to need snacks and drinks mid international travel). i pair it with a co2 monitor to pick a decent-enough spot or time to do that or meds or what have you. Flomask has import license to EU, but expensive shipping (and i had to pay vat after the fact) but for me it's worth it as they're so much lighter in weight and people don't hassle as much as large respirators (some airport and airline staff will arbitrarily get upset and demand you not wear full respirators, which is supposed to not be allowed but is of course still happening).

otherwise i see you got a respirator so maybe that one will already work for you! if not then this is another option :) I've only used it and p100 respirators, haven't searched around for ffp3 since moving to EU so I'm gonna look into the one you got already for myself, too!

re: respirator rec / long rambling answer

@gremlins hi ! thank you for responding, i was actually just thinking of getting another to have a third option . the gvs eclipse is okay but i can't tell when the filters need replacing so it makes it kinda frustrating. otherwise for day-to-day high risk situations I wear aura 9205+'s, its fairly easy to just grab a few from the pile and put em in my pack :)

i might get a flomask!
